Golden Sun is fun, but it starts off reaaaaaaaaally slowly, to the point where I can't bring myself to replay it. Once the game really starts to kick off, though, it's great fun, and pretty too. Golden Sun DS is long overdue.

Also, for those unaware, Golden Sun was developed by Camelot Software Programming (formerly Sonic Software Programming) who's biggest claim to fame is the first three Shining Force games, so Golden Sun looks and feels like a traditional RPG based in the Shining Force universe might.

@RaccoonMario: Do you mean the Battle Mode where two people fight using their own characters? Yeah, I played that a couple times. You had to link the systems together and then go to the reception counter in the Battle Mode. If you're linked, the receptionist will say something to that effect, and then you'll go into battle with your front three characters. It was kinda fun for a few moments, but I was so much better than anyone I've played. My level 60 Chaos Lord Jenna is a beast.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Yeah, it does start very slow. If you want my advice, I'd say try to play further.

Golden Sun is a game that only gets better later throughout the game. Right now, it's setting everything the story up, sot here's lots of dialogue. Puzzles will get more difficult to deal with, and pay attention to small details. When you'll try Golden Sun 2, you'll find out that the things you have done in the first that seemed insignificant were actually quite meaningful to the story's progression. Golden Sun 2 will have even deeper puzzles.

I'd also advise on getting everything on Golden Sun 1 so that you can transfer them to Golden Sun 2.

Don't let my location fool you. I'm Québécois, not Canadian.

Yeah, Golden Sun has one of the worst starts in an RPG I've ever seen, but it does get fun eventually.

Maybe it's less awful because it was one of the first JRPGs I really got into, but I found it to just be the exact same weak start where I don't care that a lot of JRPGs have (and Skyward Sword too imo). Like even Chrono Trigger I found pretty meh for the first 2 hours.

I'll admit, I played Chrono Trigger for 2 hours, and put the game down for over a solid year, having sworn to never play it again. Chrono Trigger does earn a spot in the running for worst intro to a great game.

OMG Golden Sun was so awesome, then the DS version came along and ruined it, terrible terrible game. I could go on a rant but there would be so many spoilers.

And I just saw this Golden Sun thread. Thanks @HeatBombastic for reviving it

I really don't see any kind of coherent conversation over here so I better just say my bit.

The slow starts were probably the worst thing about the GS games. After that the games became pure fun Golden Sun 1 and 2 were amazing games, the best JRPGs I have played on the GBA. Golden Sun 1 although shorter and having less content than GS 2 was my favourite GBA game. Felix in GS 2 was nice and all but I preferred my party with Isaac and the main new member I used was Jenna (but she was there in GS 1 for a short amount of time). GS 2 also had some dungeons that dragged on eg: Air Rock which I would rank as the most boring Golden Sun dungeon.

Golden Sun Dark Dawn kind of spoiled the series. Too many things were added to the lore and so many plot holes were introduced. The new characters did not really do much for me atleast, to liven up the game like the originals and lack of the original party was a thing that I constantly remembered throughout the game. The game was meant for newcomers as well as for older GS player but I feel it alienated the old fans of GS with its many mistakes. The plot was incoherent compared to the originals and there was not much added. The game was also too easy and we hardly saw any old characters (major). I could go on and on but I better stop.

I hope that the GS series is revived properly this time with GS 4 with return of atleast some of the original party members and Isaac in lead (Matthew albeit a clone, is not at all my preferred character). Playable Isaac in Smash Bros. would really help revitalize interest in the series and make Nintendo take interest in one of the best RPGs it has released.

Nintendo fan, with a taste for all genres! Monster Hunter for the win!

Oh and Isaac for Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS!
