Topic: Would you buy an N64 Classic if it came with only 10 games?

The NES Classic had 30 games, the SNES had 20+1. What if Nintendo decides to only include 10 games with an N64 Classic? There isn't even that many good N64 games, and some of them can't be included due to licensing (Banjo-Kazooie and Golden Eye are two examples).

The list of games could look something like this:

1. Super Mario 64
2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
3. Mario Kart 64
4. Yoshi's Story
5. Kirby 64
6. Paper Mario
7. Donkey Kong 64
8. Mario Party
9. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
10. Super Smash Bros

I would be very disappointed, but would still buy it. I didn't even own 10 games when i had an N64, but part of the fun with these mini consoles is that you also get to play the game you didn't own. I'm hoping for at least the same 21 games that the SNES mini had.

If it's those titles, I wouldn't unless it's significantly cheaper than the SNES mini. All of those have been available on the Wii (U)'s VC, which means you can still get them cheap nowadays.

Besides, it's as you say, I'd like to see some games that I haven't played included. Even without third-parties, there's more obscure Nintendo stuff that could make the system worth owning. Including Sin & Punishment would be the bare minimum, if you ask me.

Stick Pilotwings 64 on there and it's an insta-buy. Maybe they can do some jiggery-pokery on Diddy Kong Racing too.

It would have to be based on the price, how well the emulation is, and what the controller is like.

Yes, the N64 did have more games than people think, and it would be fun to see some weird ones. Space Station Silicon Valley is a game I would want included. It shouldn't be too hard to get because it was published by Take-Two. Hopefully Nintendo have learned from the Snes Mini that you can't just have 9 less games AND increase the price.

@RETRO_J Even 20 titles the size of Conker or Pokémon Stadium 2 would just weight a little over 1GB. Developing an emulator that can upscale those titles, even at 1080p, is more than doable. Storage wouldn't be an issue, unless you want them to revamp all texture work

There's no reason why they couldn't include more games.

N64 games are very small, and one of the largest (if not the largest) games that I'm aware of is Pokemon Stadium 2, which I seem to recall was shipped on a 64MB cartridge (though the actual size of the game would most likely be somewhere in the 40s-50s. Super Mario 64 shipped on an 8MB cartridge.

controversial opinion: If they can't get any Rare games (beyond I guess DK64), they shouldn't bother.

Whilst I don't really care about them, I do agree.

@Agriculture both the nes mini and snes mini had third party titles.
I would add
1 oger Battle
2 rouge squadron
3 Bomberman
4 harvest moon 64

If that was a valid reason the NES and SNES Minis would have had the entire library. I think the number of games they put on there has more to do with how much value Nintendo puts on these games. Typically Nintendo has sold N64 games for twice as much as NES games on the VC. So assuming the price point is similar I can't see them pushing it that far above 15 games. If the N64 Mini happens at all.

Don't they have to pay large licensing fees for every third party game? The NES had 12 third party games, and the SNES had only 7.

Nah, not for those games. If they include stuff that has been exclusive in Japan or more titles that never got an actual release like StarFox 2 I would though.

Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

There's nothing quite like Star Fox 2/Mother on the N64, is there? Mother 3 was never finished, and late projects like Eternal Darkness and Doshin the Giant were moved to the GameCube. An English version of Animal Forest, maybe?

As I said, if I can play Sin & Punishment in English with the controller it was originally designed for, I'm happy.

I'd buy it just for the extra built in feature like scanlines really good emulation to play on a hd tv. I prefer the crt retro look for retro consoles

Hm.... no.
I prefer Wii, Wii U and Gamecube for older consoles.

Sony should really do a PS1 classic. There's like 100 awesome games on the ps1.

the problem is there arent 10 games worth playing on the n64 unless they are all doom 64.
