Has anybody played it and completed it?

I got it as a "Sorry" from Sony after my original Playstation broke four days after Christmas (it came with Devil Dice).

Technically, this was my very first "RPG" I have ever played although I had no idea what the genre was until I played Final Fantasy X (I thought Pokemon at the time was a fighting sim).

I loved the game but never finished it because;

1) When I was young I had no idea how to join the characters together.
2) When I did it was too hard for me.
3) I got stuck at some mountain where a door won't open for me.

So I am pretty much stuck on the third reason.

Let's discuss this gamre and any tips for our fellow gamers!

I played it. It's good. Wild Arms 2 and 3 are good, 4 not so much, 5 is decent. I wish I could remember more about Wild Arms 1 and that mountain dilemma but I played it on the PS1 long ago. Check a FAQ online and that will most likely help you.

Yeah, thanks...it's pretty under-rated compared to other RPGS....although abit dated....it was pretty cute being 2D like in the overworld and then 3D in the battles....

Was it out even before Final Fantasy VII? When I obtained my Playstation it was in 98' and the box had FFVII on the back (thought it was some random crappy game at the time and ignored it til I demoed X).

Yes, Wild Arms was out before Final Fantasy 7 was. It came out almost 5 months before Final Fantasy 7 did.

Well, It's actually higher-rated than Wild ARMs 2 and Legend of Dragoon. Two of my favorite games for the PS1. So, I guess the original actually got the better end of the deal.

I just wish more reviewers would actually open their eyes and look at games from other people's perspective than their own.

I beaten Wild Arms 2 times. It is hard including the sidequests. It is a good rpg though. I thought it was one of the most overlooked rpgs on the Playstation,

I do have some advice for you besides getting through the door. I recommend that you should upgrade Rudy's arms as much as possible. It will make boss fights easier in the beginning.

I am not completely sure what mountain you are on. If you are on the first mission with all 3 characters together, you are not on a mountain, all though it appears by screen. If you are at Lolithia's Tomb like I think you are, use the Tear Drop in front of
the big door.

Thank you for giving me advice....

Erm...there is a town nearby that looks like a native American village...I used the Tear Drop amongst other key items but nothing is working.

Not sure if I upgraded my ARMs as much as I have but thanks for letting me know and for answering my question.

Sounds like this got overlooked...just like Resonance of Fate with Final Fantasy XIII.

It was. I have been subscribing to game magazines since spring of 1993. Final Fantasy 7 was previewed and hyped for months. The other factor that caused Wild Arms being overlooked including Playstation rpgs were being overlooked before Final Fantasy 7 came in. Suikoden was overlooked when it first came out despite it came out it late 1996.

I know where you are at for sure now in Wild arms. You are at Basker Village. The mountain you are referring to is Mt. Zenom . Make show you get the fast draw hint for Meteor Dive on this mountain before you face the boss. It is one of the most powerful attacks against a boss for Jack in this point in the game.

This mountain has switches and statues. it is for opening doors or The first of the sealed doors has a room that you need to push the most left statue to the east until it glows. The 2nd switch will come soon and you will need to use Jack's tool- lighter to find the button. There is a Statue room pass the saving point on the mountain. You have to push the gray statues in line with the glowing statues.

There is a rune: that you have a one shot deal to get. That rune is found is found in maze of death. You will get to visit the Maze death into you complete another town. Maze death itself isn't a subquest, but there is a countdown after you defeat a boss. During the countdown, you could find a hidden boss. There is another one shot one after this but, I don't want to jump ahead. I am only telling the hidden rune in maze of death if for some reason that you make that far without being stuck after I can't be contacted for a couple weeks starting this Friday.

Alright, thanks for the advice again...I'll have to start playing Wild Arms again as soon as I have finished Resonance of Fate as well as completing Final Fantasy 13 100% .

Aw man...I hate countdowns...I may get lost. XD

I beat Wild Arms back in the day...I'm currently sorta replaying it, but I kinda got bored once I got the ship (and I took some time off so I'm kinda lost...).

It's kinda rough to play these days honestly---both this and Wild Arms 2 have these agonizingly slow turn-based battle systems that can only marginally be sped up by turning off the dynamic camera effects. At least in WA 2 you can cancel most encounters, but yeah--definitely haven't aged well (like a lot of those early disc-based games). The puzzles aren't a total snooze though (there are a couple in WA2 that are pretty brutal--the wall/switch puzzle in the transmission tower comes to mind )

Overall, since they're both 6 bucks, they're very worth getting...just don't be surprised if you can't last much more than an hour at a time or so due to the battle pacing.

I'm not so bothered about the battle pacing...the way the battles happen are what I love about this compared to the Final fantasy series...it's just that at times you will get stuck at certain bits from the game as it gives you little clues on what to do next.

The overworld is like an opera like song that is used outside of the game itself (I've heard it on an advert for daredevils of all things). When I first heard it I was like "I've heard this tune before", before realising it was from Wild Arms.

This is what made me create this thread!

Beyond the Beyond. Though Camelot made it (the original Shining Force, Golden Sun), it doesn't sound like it's considered very good.

Not surprising....I've read an article about Camelot being treated so poorly by SEGA throughout their Shining Force Dev days...the morale may have effected their development for other companies.

I love Wild Arms. Or at least, I love Wild Arms 5. I really should play it more. Same with Wild Arms 3, which I haven't played. I also should get Wild Arms 1 and 2 someday. Blargh!

Wild Arms 1 holds up better then Final Fantasy 7 for sure. It makes itself out like it's an expanded 2D adventure more than 3D but at the same time it doesn't dazzle itself as a 3D adventure.
