As 8BitSamurai said which I have thought all this time. They just made one to shut people up. I honestly believed that Nintendo didn't intend to be one and never made one until people started to saying yes there is one no there isn't.
Of course they didn't. You can notice that it's an afterthought when playing OOT. Sheik says you look like the hero of time.. How in the world would she know that when the hero of time originates from OOT?
They probably made it up after the N64 games, with the split timeline and everything. No matter the case though, it's still a timeline, and official at that. So there IS in fact a timeline for the series.
Something that's not there you say? Then how do you explain this page from Hyrule Historia?
Nintendo was going to release Hyrule Historia anyway. Cashing in on fans who have this strange obsession with joining all the dots was an easy decision. Actually looking at the games, and the timeline, its obvious that it wasn't planned from the start, and thats why inconsistencies exist with this 'official' timeline as well.
Honestly the timeline has never been made official by Nintendo iirc. I might be wrong but was Hyrule Historia just a concept book? Honestly maybe the "timeline" (I use the term losely) is up to the person to determine and maybe we are all right and than again maybe we are all wrong? Still as I said why do people insist that they are right and others are wrong?

once again i have the most valid points in the thread
for the record
Ok then?
Sooo... I guess you all dislike the timeline's existence in some way or don't think it's necessary, that's fine, but I don't care, I think it's fine. So whatever.
@Tasuki According to the Amazon description the "official chronology of the games" is in the book so it doesn't matter what happened prior to the release of the book, we now have an official timeline.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

So Amazon says that and its right?? That makes sense.
So next time Amazon says a game is the best game ever made they are right and I should run out and buy that game Ok then. :/

Honestly the timeline has never been made official by Nintendo iirc.
... Iwata even talked about where Wind Waker HD and A Link Between Worlds were placed in the timeline today in the Nintendo Direct.
Wind Waker takes place months before Phantom Hourglass. This was already known. A Link Between Worlds takes place in the distant future after ALttP.
This hardly refers to a "timeline" for the entire series. That's like saying "There's an official timeline because Majora's Mask takes place right after Ocarina of Time"

Not really since both those titles are perfectly represented by the 3x split...

I kinda agree with what @19Robb92 is saying, I don't think Nintendo would have bothered mentioning the time frame pre Hyrule Historia.
To blessed to be stressed.

What Would Duane Do? Rynoggery
Ok sorry had to rewatch the Direct and I didn't see him mention a timeline either. He just said that the new 3DS Zelda takes place in the future after ALttP. But that really doesn't mean there is a whole timeline for the series. It just means that ALttP and ALBW are connected which we already knew. Just because those two are connected doesn't mean that all the games are connected.
As I said at the beginning I know that a few of them are connected but the whole series connecting.......

Why do people still name their children Ganadorf if he's usually the Zelda villain if it's all connected? And why do people keep trusting Gamadorfs with positions of power?
What did Tom Nook do with the mother of his children??!!?
No! That timeline is wrong!
Each AC game has a new Tom Nook, the first was killed by his nephews, which then fight to the death to become the next TomNook.
Thank you for enlightening me and finally allowing my soul to rest.
