I never owned an Xbox, so I've got to ask: That controller S is wired or wireless? Because Wavebird was brought to this discussion because as far as I know it was the first wireless controller. If it is wired, then I don't see your point.

i am more concerned about the placement of A B X Y. the xbox layout is way better. i am still confused on nintendo systems. A and B need be to changed. X and Y need to be changed, too.
Uh, why would Nintendo change the button layout when it's been like that since the SNES? Microsoft had to change it so it wouldn't be identical.
The GCN controller is the most comfortable controller to ever exist. Not only did it have a delightful contour to it, it also had perfectly sized buttons positioned in a way that you could access them with great ease. The sticks also performed very well, with a very nice range of motion complimenting many of the games for the system perfectly. It is truly an exemplary system.

This. <snip>
The hell? Is my opinion. The 360 controller is the only one that's difficult for me to play fighting games with. But I still got use to it, I just wish the analog stick and the D-pad was better. The rest of the gaming genre is fine.

There have been wireless controllers long before the wavebird. I got a set of NES(they are Acclaim controllers) wireless controllers sitting in my game room right now. But yea, as was pointed out, Atari had some too.

I would disagree with the OP on the GameCube controller, to be fair, I have a strong nostalgia bias, but the buttons are neat as you can get to them without thinking a bit no matter how unfamiliar you are with it. I do, however, think it definitely has some problems. First and foremost being the d-pad, which is almost completely unusable due to extremely small size and awkward placing. The c-stick was kind of weird too, it wasn't too easy to use in some serious dual-analog games, I don't think. But overall I would call it pretty competent, and very comfortable in most hands!
As for the N64 controller, I won't only agree with the OP, but I'll take it further and say it's easily my least favorite controller ever. This is a lot of opinions and subjectivity, but I don't even know where to begin with how much I dislike it. First of all, the analog stick, while innovative, is hard, cheap plastic, and can make my thumb sore. Not only that, but it's very very prone to all sorts of wear and tear, and many N64 controllers you see in the wild have lost almost all their tightness. The trident design, for me, is just bizarre. No matter how you hold it, you always miss one third of it, and two of the holding positions (Including the most common, middle and right prong), will have your hands grouped onto one half of it, which just feels wrong to me. and using Z as a left shoulder feels very clumsy. Even the face buttons I cannot stand, the c-buttons in particular. The whole setup feels unintuitive and and awkward when I'm playing games. The only thing I liked about the controller in any fashion was a functional d-pad, but it was barely ever even used. I rarely play my N64, and I know if I do again, it's going to be with an imported Hori Mini Pad!
I do, however, acknowledge it is a love it or hate it design. I am far on the side of the latter.

Or they copied the Dreamcast controller.
This is the answer. If you look at the Xbox Duke controller it is totally inspired by the Dreamcast controller.

I'm bumping this a bit because I feel like giving the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls some due praise.
Granted, it has its flaws, few buttons and inadequate button placing and whatnot, but it truly opened up a brave new world of gaming. It's not the best controller for some types of games like fighters, but it is the best controller for shooters, as far as I'm concerned. This is how I want to play FPS, hope 3rd parties continue to support it on Wii U for a long time.
Also, I agree the Saturn controller was really nice and as a kid I just loved how cool it looked. I watched ads on TV and wanted to have a Saturn just by the look of it. All I got was a Nintendo 64 (borrowed), but I'm by no means complaining.
Oh, the knee-jerk reaction of the elitist "hardcore" gamer. How amusing. If you can't play some of the Wii best games because of the controller, I can't help but think there's something very wrong with you, not with the Wii Remote.
I feel sorry for you, people. But in the meantime I'm playing Mario Galaxy again, you know the best game of the generation?
@Samurai_Goroth You understood my comment wrong. I have a physical handicap (erb's palsy); But i can properly use every game controller I've used thus far, expect for the Wii Mote + Nunchuck. That is why I dislike it a lot, I cannot play Mario Galaxy and the like despite I really want to. The controller just kept me from enjoying the best the Wii had to offer.
