If it was based on character and world design, use of color and detail, my contenders are in no particular order;
SMW2: Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong 1-3, Mega Man X 1-3, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Lufia II, Star Ocean, Tales Of Phantasia, Treasure Of the Rudras (Rudra No Hiho), Secret Of Mana, Secret Of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3), Dragon Quest VI, Terranigma, Bahamut's Lagoon, Treasure Hunter G, and Tactics Ogre.
Have you guys seen super Turrican 2? Now those are some damn good snes graphics.

This is a great thread, but a tough one to answer. I join many others here, in that I think that the vivid colours, picture book design and Super FX 2 enhanced graphics combine to ensure that Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island has the best graphics on the SNES. Probably.
I am passionate about retro gaming, from antiquated consoles to the continuation of classics. Obviously I love PSone, and PS2 retro games. I blast my ears to breakneck melodic punk, gruff vocals and nimble alternative guitar hooks.
