SonicMaster here. For my birthday I was thinking about asking for an old system. My candidates are the 16 bit and 32-64 bit console of sega and nintendo (genesis, saturn, snes, n64). Which one should I get? I'm having a hard time, considering that I don't know how many good games on those systems will come to vc. Of course, Saturn won't be very likely to come to vc till next gen.

Okay, now that I got that out of my system...I'd suggest the SNES, SonicMaster. I have so many memories of the system and it's great games. Of course, most of the games I loved are now on the VC (save a few brilliant ones that we're still missing), so I don't know if that's the best option. Still, it's absolutely solid and you can't go wrong with it.

I'm actually thinking about the n64. If I asked for it, the first three games I asked for to go along with it would be Banjo-Kazooie, Pokemon Stadium, and Mischief Makers. I also want a transfer pak for stadium becuase I'm asking for blue. :) BTW, what good snes games are still missing?

That was my second choice, and probably the better one now that I think about it. The support for N64 has unfortunately been low and many of the system's greatest games will never see the light of day on the VC. So, you know what, I'm changing my opinion, and I think you should get an N64.

Its gonna a pain in the butt finding old games. Espicially SNES and Genesis. Just ask for a game or Wii points or something.

N64 games are pretty easy to find. And you don't get the point. The games I'm getting aren't and NEVER (at least for the time being :p) will be released on vc.

Which games are you the most interested in, SonicMaster? that could help you to narrow down your choices (e.g. which system has the most games available that you want that aren't yet/will never be released for VC). :3

I'm obviously biased as my license plate reads "16BIT" so you know where I'd go. I'd go with either an SNES or Genesis. :)

Well, I think the most interseting ones are on the n64. I like side-scrollers, and I really think treasure's cool,even though I haven't played any of their games. I'd like to! So, I want to get mischief makers. Also, I like pokemon (pokemon stadium.) As for Banjo-Kazooie, I'm just getting it because it's gotten great reviews and it looks fun!

Mischief Makers was a fun game, good choice... go for Goldeneye too, if you decide on the N64. And if you never had the chance to play Mega Man Legends for PSX, there's always Mega Man 64 (basically the same game). :)

Well, it seems you're set on the N64, so, really, I don't know why you're asking, but it's a good choice. Perfect Dark is the best game for N64 that will never be released on the Wii IMO.

K, I think I've officially decided on n64. Almost asked for one last year, but didn't. Maybe I'll ask for goldeneye for Xmas or something, I don't know.
@black dragon
on ign, Mega man 64 got a 4.5, while mega man legends got over an 8. Are they really the same game, or was the reviewer of mega man 64 just a hater? :p I'll go with the latter.

the Gamespot review sums up the problems between the versions. Even though MM64 came out three years after Legends, it was the same game only with a little bit of a graphics update and no other changes except for dull colors, muted voices, and missing music and/or sound effects in places. Though Capcom's official website promised updated/more dungeons, there was nothing extra added, so it's basically the same game (that's what I was referring to when I said that :)). Bottom line is that MM64 was only worth picking up if you'd never played Legends before.

Did it only get a bad score because it's basically the same as legends?

It likely got its score because it did not improve on Legends at all even though it was released three years later. All it is was a port from PSX to N64 with some graphical tweaking and some missing music/sounds.
