(2) Is exiting to the Wii Menu like closing a DS? If I go back to play a game like SMB2 and get a GAME OVER, will I re-spawn at my "save" point, or will I have to start from level 1?
The suspend feature is comparable to a pause feature. Going to the Wii menu basically pauses the game, and reloading the game essentially unpauses it. If you get a game over, you'll go back to where ever the game designer wanted you to go. If you're talking about The Lost Levels, you go back to stage 1 of the current world. If you're talking about the western Mario 2 (also known as Doki Doki Panic ROM hack ) from what I remember, you can start over from the current stage twice, then you have to start the whole game over.
Agree I have never had a save game reset back to an empty file if you dont play it for a few days. I have had saved games last for years without touching them. You might want to change that battery out there NintyFan

I know that Gemfire could also save. FInding one that can save now? that would be difficult as my copy has lost that ability (The internal battery died)
@Arnix Welcome to the Nintendolife site!! You know NES cartridges are so old that it can't work anymore and I believe there are too many risks to change the internal battery alone. If not there believe is somebody by can do it.

Every single NES game i have that has a save ability/battery still save perfectly fine.
And it is relatively easy to replace a battery as long as you know what you're doing.
