I just got a Game Boy Micro in the mail today and I was wondering what you're favorite Game Boy was. Mines practically a tie between the Game Boy Micro and the GBA SP, with GBA SP being a little ahead because it's backward compatibility.

The SP, especially the special edition NES one.

Yep, I'm with Alejandro on this one, I have the Pearl Blue SP with the brighter screen as my main model. I also have a soft place in my heart for the original Game Boy system as well.

I actually prefer the original 'brick' simply because it's the machine I grew up with. However I've just made these purchases:

Neat! Congratulations. I also own the clear GBP, I got it for like 10 USD in blackmarket. GBASP is cool, but Im not into SEs

It's funny playing these older GB games in color how different developers used different methods of attaining the right differences in grayscale. Some actually used gray colors and others used actual colors of differing hues. It's clear that some didn't look ahead to a time when the games might be played in color given their color choices.

True! That's why I got the GBP - the GBA doesn't display monochrome games correctly, if you ask me. Super Mario Land looks a proper mess!

All Game Boys have good and bad points but overall I'd go with the brighter SP even though I'm annoyed I can't play Kirby's Tilt n Tumble on it.

@Corbie @Damo Hold B, LEFT at same time at GAME BOY screen to display black/white (GBC, GBASP, Player).

Is that with the default colour setting or switching to black and white (<+B). Personally I prefer the old games on my brick as no other GB displays in green and black, but if using another for convenience I've found the B+W option OK.

I didn't know about that Black and White option - thanks!

Alejandro, thanks a bunch for that info! That worked perfectly. Now I can play all my older GB games in the black and white they were intended.

It's good to know, but TBH I still prefer the GBP for my monochrome games. The blurry quality of the screen is actually one of the features that makes me so nostalgic for the machine. Plus, GB games on the GBA SP are squashed down in the display.

I could do without the blur. My eyes aren't what they used to be. And are they squashed down. They don't look it. Do you have them in regular GB mode instead of stretched? Maybe I just never noticed. They seem the same resolution to me.

Don't have a GBP to check with, but comparing to the brick it's the same resolution but smaller screen.

It is a bit smaller because of the higher resolution of the display for the GBA games, but I believe they're the same resolution, just on a smaller scale. I'm glad to have that B&W mode. Makes them much more authentic. I can't believe I didn't know about that. I guess I don't know everything after all.

I would just like to say, that as a kid, I at least could fit the Original GB in my jeans pocket. That was portability, and I was 8.

I honestly love the Original GBA the most, because how it fitter in my hands. Perfect. Screen was never a problem for me either. Neat also how you could use the Old GBP/C Linkcable in it, for things like pokemon. As well as the GBA linkcable. It was the best backwards compatible system ever made.

Yeah, I meant smaller screen, but same resolution.

I feel like I should start trying to collect all the Game Boys out, lol. But my favorite is the SP.
