Topic: Where do you go for used Gamecube games?

I want to fill out my collection with some Gamecube games but they are damn near impossible to find. I checked every Gamestop in my town. They have one little shelf with maybe 15 games in the whole store. For some reason there's wall to wall PS2 games though. I know the Gamecube had probably 300 or so games. I don't understand why they are so hard to find.

There's a Game X change near where I live. I might check there. A few days ago I bought a Cube game at Gamestop and the stupid disk didn't even work. Some idiot at the store sold me a scratched disc. ebay is probably my best bet but I'm kinda worried I'll get ripped off.

If you're going with Ebay be picky. Don't click and buy the first game you see.

For ebay, look for ones with return policies, good shipping rates, and ones with actual pictures instead of Stock Photos. That's how I've avoided getting ripped off (mostly. I took a chance on Suikoden V and Skies of Arcadia with stock Photos and no return policies and it paid off, but I still don't recommend doing that).

I bought the majority of mine through eBay. The advice above is good - it's quite risky to buy a second hand game without seeing a photo of the actual item for sale.

My eBay guide (I've bought several hundred games on eBay) would be:

1. Compare prices between similar items. If there's a big price difference, there will be a reason for that (e.g. the game may be disc-only, may not have a manual or cover etc.) and sometimes it is not immediately obvious why.

2. Always, always spend a bit of time looking through the feedback of sellers, especially if they don't have lots of feedback. Keep in mind that basically every seller will have some sort of negative feedback (there's always an unhappy customer, no matter what the seller does) but if there are multiple complaints, it's probably a good idea to look elsewhere.

3. Look for a photo of the actual item for sale. Sometimes people will use stock photos, sometimes they will have a photo of a second hand copy of the game even if it isn't the copy for sale. Quite often people will mention in the listing that the photo is of the actual item for sale - if not, send them an email to ask if you can get some more pictures.

4. On that note, don't be afraid to email sellers with questions. They want your money, so in my experience they will generally reply within 24 hours. In my experience, sellers are quite friendly and will be happy to answer any questions about the item condition or postage and the like.

5. Use PayPal or another payment option that has some sort of protection. Keep in mind that PayPal doesn't guarantee your money back if you have problems, but I've had to make a claim before for an item that I never received in the mail and got all of my money refunded.

6. Finally, just be aware and use common sense. If something doesn't seem right, look elsewhere - it's not worth the stress and inconvenience of a sale gone wrong just to try saving a few dollars. If you take appropriate steps to select trustworthy buyers, you shouldn't have too many (if any) problems with eBay - and as it gives such good access to sellers around the world, it's a great place to track down hard to find video games!

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

RevolverLink

The Amazon marketplace is usually the place I look to for used games nowadays. And the results have been largely satisfactory.

The only thing is with Gamestop it depends on the Gamestop and I guess the OP stated that all his Gamestops have bad selections.

Amazon, eBay or a local "Mom and Pop" video game place. Amazon is my number one choice. The family owned game stores are cool because most of them specialize(as far as I know) in last gen. and retro titles.

Gamestop very soon won't be buying or selling any used Gamecube games or systems. I might just go with Amazon, there's so many games I missed O:
