Hmm, favourite is the Wii and least favorite is the Game Cube. Yes, below the Virtual Boy.

Well comparing 2d to 3D isnt that fair, New Super Mario Bros is a pretty meh game if put up against SM64. But Im glad to see someone not hating on DK64 for once.

I don't see how it's unfair, everything that I stated that was better about DK64 could have been implemented into DKCR, just obviously done in a 2D way.

Thats hard to imagine, the only non linear sidescrollers I can think of is that Megaman on the DS and SMB3 sort of.

I think it is strange how people hate the z trigger on the n64 when wiis is placed almost the same exact place.

It's because some people just derp, and hate before thinking.

Well, I've never had an N64, but I have played one plenty of times. That controller is just horrible, particularily that awkward underneath trigger. Most of those multiplayer games are better on the GameCube or Wii, and not just because they have better controllers. Even many of the good single player games have (or will soon have) better versions.

Instead of Goldeneye N64 or Perfect Dark, play Goldeneye Wii or (soon) Conduit 2. Instead of Mario Kart 64, play Mario Kart: Double Dash (for local multiplayer) or Mario Kart Wii (for online multiplayer). Instead of Super Smash Bros., play Super Smash Bros. Melee or Brawl. Instead of F-Zero X, play the GameCube F-Zero. Instead of Mario Tennis or Golf, play the GameCube or Wii versions. Instead of Mario Party 2 or 3, play Mario Party >3. Instead of Bomberman 64, play Bomberman Blast. Instead of Super Mario 64, play Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. Instead of Paper Mario, play Super Paper Mario. Instead of Sin and Punishment, play Sin and Punishment: Star Sucessor. Instead of Donkey Kong 64, play Donkey Kong Country returns. Instead of Starfox 64 and LoZ: Ocarina of time, get the upcoming 3DS versions. Instead of Kirby 64, get the new upcoming Kirby for Wii. Pokémon Snap has a superior Virtual Console version that lets you save your pictures to SD cards.

I just listed something like 3/4 of the good N64 games.

Yay, someone can name sequels, so what? Never assume a sequel is a better experience. Mario Party 2 still has the best mini-game selection, Goldeneye Wii is NOT the real thing (Seriously, replacing Bond Brosnan with Bourne Craig? disgrace), SSB Brawl is one of the most broken AAA titles I've ever come across, infact the original SSB is still praised as the better in my book because it's mechanics ALWAYS work due to how streamlined and simple the controls and features are, Mario Kart Wii shouldn't even have online, it's completely broken with dash-glitchers.

No, sequels aren't always better, but with the possible exception of the Mario Party sequels (although the Wii ones have better controls) and DK, those particular ones are. Goldeneye Wii is still a lot better game despite the new Bond. SSBBrawl has its faults, but its still miles ahead of SSB64, and if you don't like the competitive nerfing in Brawl, there's still Melee, which is also miles ahead of SSB64. In Mario Kart Wii, online play (lag-fee, I might add) is better than no online at all, while Double Dash has superior local play than both the 64 and Wii versions. What's this dash-glitching, anyway? I've never heard of it.

As for Super Paper Mario, you've obviously never played it, or the first two Paper Marios. The gameplay is nothing alike, only the presentation. As someone who bought it day one, I was severely disappointed it's not an RPG, but a platformer.

I'll give you the genre change in the Wii version making it too different, but that still leaves the GameCube version.

While Donkey Kong Country Returns is the best 2D platformer out right now, it still lacks in areas that Donkey Kong 64 shined in. First, the over the top characters, bosses, and levels. Second, the multiplayer has alot more going for it in DK64, since it has a competitive element, while in DKCR, multiplayer feels more like a burden, much like in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

You may have a point here, although DKCR certainly has a few superior areas, as well. Anyone else have an opinion on which is better?

Lastly, for anyone that complains about the N64's Z-trigger, do you have any idea how hypocritical you sound? Every other controller since then has adopted the trigger button for your index finger, and the fact that the bottom of the controller is warped to fit your hand makes it even more comfortable to hold than most other controllers.
Also, if you're going to only attack the N64, attack the Wii as well, the Nunchuck is exactly what the middle handle is.

The problem isn't the trigger itself. It's that it's so awkward to reach and use while still using the other controls, especially with the extremely clumsy overall design of the controller. It being comfortable to hold is completely untrue. The nunchuck is one handle designed well to be held by one hand with both buttons at an easy reach. The nunchuck and Wiimote also have the added advantage of being able to be held as far apart as you want. Between the Wiimote and nunchuck (and most other controllers like the GameCube controller), everything is in easy reach, and there's none of this nonsense of dividing the main buttons into multiple unintuitive areas or dividing the C button into four different directional buttons. Don't give me this nonsense that it's meant to be held differently and use different controls depending on the games. It's awkward to hold and use a good amount of the controls in any configuration.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

Having started on the Nintendo 64 and owned all systems at different times and played them considerably, I'll list three. One for favorite, one for the best, and one for the worst. The reason why I'm separating these former two is because favorite doesn't necessarily mean the best.

Favorite: Nintendo 64. This console got me into gaming, which is enough for me to like it. It also has fantastic first and second-party support and what limited third-party support they had were actually decent for the most part, so I'd imagine that picking out quality games would be much easier then on other consoles. Tons of memories on the system and nostalgia that will never leave me.

Best: Super Nintendo Entertainment System: This is a nearly flawless system, the best of the best. It has the best of first, second, and third-party support and from what I've seen, shovelware amount is reduced from the gag-worthy NES (It made it up with fantastic games itself, but not even the Wii can compare to it in the shovelware amount, although still overall a great system), and a brilliant hardware. If not for the CD debacle, this system would be perfect in my eyes.

Worst: Nintendo Gamecube. None of the Nintendo systems I've owned have been bad, but the Nintendo Gamecube was pretty disappointing to say the least. The library had better third-party support, but it was still not good. The omission of online with a few exceptions was downright insulting and had I been at this age with the Nintendo Gamecube still selling, this would be my primary criticism of the console. It didn't help that the Nintendo games IMO weren't at the caliber of previous titles or ones on the Wii. When all said and done, it didn't feel like a Nintendo system, but a generic system with the Nintendo label on it.

I guess the Gamecube as I liked what it offered to me.

N64 is my least favourite...not really anything I hate about it...it just doesn't appeal to me.

Except the fact that there is a quite the difference from how the two feel in your hand.

How was the N64 controller uncomfortable? All you needed to reach with your left hand was the analog stick and the z button. They were both placed in comfortable positions (very similar to the dimensions on the nunchuck, as shown). What's so difficult? Kills the dual shock for comfort!

Anyways, here are my favorites:
Wii - Love the motion controls. The VC has become a really awesome library of games. Sure, there's still plenty we won't see, but it's still a really sweet library. As for new games: Galaxy, the return of 2D platformers, MK Wii, Prime Trilogy - there's tons of favorites for me.

N64 - Groundbreaking. Awesome controller. Mario 64 and OoT. Awesome system.

Nintendo DS - I was skeptical, but I've put so many enjoyable hours into the system, what can I say?

Least favorite:
Gamecube - Just not as epic as the N64. The library was mostly N64 games with better graphics, it seemed. My bro sold the N64 to get it, and that made me sad. Also, Sega games released on the GCN just didn't have the same level of awesome their Dreamcast games, which was a huge disappointment for me. Not Nintendo's fault, to be fair. I just didn't play it that much, because it left a bad taste in my mouth.

GBC - No backlight (original GBA gets rage for this too, but the original GB gets a pass, because it's super old)! I CAN BARELY TELL THERE'S COLOR, BECAUSE I CAN'T SEE THE SCREEN. Really looking forward to playing these games on the 3DS. What can I say, the Game Gear spoiled me, and I couldn't do no backlight.

As someone who loves the N64, I'd like to point out this weird, unoriginal person doesn't speak for me. And if I hear one more person whining about Super Paper Mario I swear...

...er...anyway I also agree GB/GBC wasn't that great. At least from what I played. It had the Super Mario/Wario/DK land games, the best 2d Zelda and the Oracle games, KDL 1 and 2, the defitively best version of Super Mario Bros/favorite remake ever, Tetris and the Pokemon games but I played almost no other games on the system. Some wrestling game, Jurassic Park, a Bugs Bunny game, Frogger and Metal Walker. Admittedly I got it in 1999 but I only got N64 in 1998 and I played everything I could on that.

Not bashing your preference, but I'd like to ask why it's your favourite, especially when compared to the home consoles.

That didn't really help much. I had the same problem with the Dreamcast pad as well, not surprisingly. I'd never call it a deal breaker for either system as I was able to find third party controllers that were a better fit for me.
