I don't know if this is retro enough to count, but one of the stories up above reminded me about it.
While digging around at a local Zellers a couple years back, I found some old GameBoy Micro stock being cleared out. Took a box to the counter expecting the price to be $20. Turns out it was only $14 when scanned in.
After leaving that store, I realized I didn't have any GBA games to test the unit with, so visited a used goods store across the street. They had lots of junk, but hidden below another game was a copy of Final Fantasy VI (GBA) for a measly $5.
Roughly $20 to carry one of the best games ever made in your pocket at all times? It doesn't get much better than that.
About ten years ago, some Ned (aka Chav) swapped me my N64 Rumble Pak (and nothing more) for his SNES, 2 contollers and 15-or-so games. Good ones too, like Super Mario Kart, Starwing, Super Pang...quality!
I got a boxed copy of Majora's Mask for 99p during Summer 2008 in Cash Convertors. When I was buying it, the manager told off at the sales assistant because he was supposed to sticker and sell it for £2.50! I got mint copies of Super Mario 64, Ocarina, DKR and Perfect Dark on the same day for 99p too.
In that same Cash Convertors, I've since bought CastleVania NES Classic (GBA) for 49p, Rock N' Roll Racing (Mega Drive) for 49p and Pikmin 2 (GameCube) for an amazing 69p.
Got Sonic The Hedgehog (boxed with instructions) for the Mega Drive in Gamestation about five years ago for 5p.
And lastly, another mate gave me his copy of Ridge Racer on PSone in exchange for a bag of crisps. Moron.
Guess my best bargain was when a company sold out their entire stock of used NES games. 3 games for 10 Euro, approx.
I got a whole bunch, some uncommon carts like Little Samson, Mega Man 4 & 5, a complete Pro Wrestling among many others. Bought about everything I didn´t own yet, glad I did now that carts cost a small fortune these days.
I got Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for free from my friend. Paper Mario: TTYD for 20$ Metroid Prime for 10$ Resident Evil 0 for 30$ Legend of Zelda NES for 15$ at a local pawn shop I've also been given a free Gamecube, NES, and 2 Gameboy colors...

My friend gave me his SNES with everything it needed with 2 controllers, Mario Paint with Mouse accessory, Donkey Kong Country 3, NHL 95 and Mario All-star with Super Mario World for free!
