SMB2 villians. I miss them...

I agree. Also, put Yoshi in more stages in the next sidescroller. I can actually count the number of levels Yoshi was in in New Super Mario Bros. Wii (not a good sign)!

I don't know if there's anything I want "back" in a Mario game. Normally I like stuff from the 2D games better, but in the end, if the level design is brilliant and the basic gameplay isn't changed, I don't really care if they have Health Points instead of mushrooms or required powerups instead of optional/no powerups. (I'm refering to SMG2 by the way, my personal favorite Mario game ever).

More Kuribo's Shoe, less remakes (I count NSMBW a remake of SMB3), more RPGs, less 3-D platformers unless they make ones that are as good or better than 64 and Sunshine. More SuperStar Saga characters wouldn't hurt.

For Side scrolling ones: Bunny Suit, Raccoon Suit, Tanooki Suit, Hammer Bros. Suit, Yoshi, Shy Guys, and Kooplings
For RPGS: Geno, Smithy, More DK stile enemies like the Zinger and Donkey Kong ones from SMRPG
For Kart: Boo Power Up, and Double Dash Mode

How can NSMBW be considered a remake of SMB3? Not one single level is the same, the graphics are completely different, the power-ups are completely different, there are new moves, the bosses are all new or at least have brand new patterns and behaviors, there's a new four-player mode, the warp system is completely different, and everything else is different, too.

It's as much a remake as Super Mario World or New Super Mario Brothers (DS) was -- that is, not at all. It's a perfectly ordinary sequel.

Well, someone forgot to eat their Frost Mini Wheats and got cranky, didn't they? Nah, just kidding. I like when people voice their opinions. Makes me proud to live in a world not censored

In my opinion, it's a remake of SMB3 at it's core. Sure, it's got some new gimmicks (though, multiplayer is insanely awesome), tidied-up graphics, fresh music, and all that good stuff, but it's just too familiar. I saw several level designs that reminded me of SMB3, and it didn't have as much variety from it's predecessor as SMW. So, I consider it a remake, just like people consider SMRPG a spiritual-predecessor to PM.

Disagreement != cranky.

If being "familiar" makes a game a remake, almost every sequel would be a remake: Super Mario Galaxy 2, Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, Metroid 2, Minish Cap, Uncharted 2, Halo 2, Halo 3, every Dragon Quest game, and so on and so on. Of course you're going to be reminded of previous games in a sequel. A remake actually use previous designs though -- if not exactly the same, then close to it -- and enhances them or adds to it, like All-Stars or Super Mario 64 DS. NSMBW offers 100% new content.

@JohnWalrus: a remake of SMB3 would've been far preferable to NSMBW. i think the term you're looking for is 'spiritual sequel', really -- there's a hint of SMB3 in there, sure, but just not enough for it to be considered a remake, y'know? that would be more in line with your 'spiritual predecessor' analogy. :3

I guess that was more in line with what I was thinking. And yes, a SMB3 remake would've been better :/

I was all on board with everything you were saying and ready to humbly agree until you said this. NSMBW has about, oh, I'd say, 5% new content. That's even low for a Mario game. I guess because not only did it get most of it's stuff from previous Mario games, it also has almost all of it's graphics and sounds from NSMB. So, OBJECTION!
