Topic: What you want back in a Mario game

I was thinking what could be implemented from an old mario game into a new one. I would of said bring back the "sky pop" shooter sections from Super Mario Land. Also speaking of that game they need to bring backsome of the melodies from that game and bunny ears power-up from the sequal. Any thoughts?

i would like to see a return to classic mario suits, like the hammer suit or the raccoon suit, instead of the new weaker suits we've seen in the galaxy games. i appreciate the effort, but none of them have really lived of the greatness of the oldschool, at least to me.

Clearly, I have unresolved Super Mario Land 2 withdrawals. You must all know it by now, and for that, I apologise once again. Maybe I'll go eat a carrot...

I agree with lockelocke, I want the hammer bros, tanooki, and racoon suits. I also wouldn't mind Karibo's shoe either.

EXPLORATION! Give me a nice big explorable hubworld with lots of secrets! Give us back those vast levels with lots of things to collect and many objectives to complete. Give me a reason to want to go back to the G-ddamn game for crying out loud!

I would think the fact that the games are fun would be reason enough to want to go back to the G-ddamn game, but I'm weird.

@Mickeymac: ha, I want the exact opposite -- I want a return to the days of old, with no dumb special coins or stars to collect in order to unlock the entire final level (which is absolute BS IMO). secret paths are fine, but shouldn't be necessary in order to progress through the worlds in numerical order, and powerups should be limited to the classics (mushroom, fire flower, 1up; that's all i need). That's what I want.

I just want more classic enemies to return into the newer games. SMG2 solved that a little, by introducing some enemies like spinies and a lakitu-looking boss.

TBD speaks truth. However, though I want the classic power-ups, too, I'm fine with additional power-ups so long as I am not once required to use them. I'm not a huge fan of flying power-ups in general, but I don't mind that SMB3, SMW, and NSMBW have them because I can still beat all three games without. As far as I'm concerned, the feather does not exist, the leaf is used for gliding down and whacking goombas, and the helishroom (does that have an official name?) exists in multiplayer only.

The Metal, Vanish, and Wing caps from Super Mario 64 have to come back in a game that's not a remake/port. I would also like to see the Mega Mushroom again (last time it was shown was just a mere cameo in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story). I also agree with lockelocke's classic suits idea. Mario needs to bring out the Hammer, Tanooki, and Frog Suits, not to mention the Kuribo's Shoe (one stage isn't enough). I would also like to see the Cape Feather return.

I want an entire world of airships because that would make me go squee.

Also I want somebody to say 'Thank you Mario, but how the hell do you get so far off-course when Bowser's castle is in a damn volcano our princess is in another castle!'

Question blocks that contain mushrooms that turn you into Super Mario. Get rid of the damn HP meter.

I for one liked both the Propeller mushroom and the Penguin Suit.

Penguin Suit > Frog Suit

Because it is useful on land as well as in the water.

Haha, I love how terrible the frog is on land. It makes for nice challenges once you've mastered the game, and it's nice that you're reward for this with the goofy dialog prepared by the kings when you conquer an airship as frog Mario.

I do like the Penguin Suit, though. I think every power-up in the side-scrolling games has been a good one. Even the cape is fun for awhile and serves as a means for less skilled players to skip outdoor levels they can't beat with real platforming skills. I don't think any beyond the mushroom and fire flower need to ever be featured in more than one game though.

hell yeah, same for the Tanooki and Hammer Bros. suits. I love building up a bunch of Frog suits and then trying to keep them as long as i can as I play through levels one by one :3

The suits from the old days, and please... bring back the feather. PLEASE.

I liked some of the suits in SMG (haven't played SMG2 yet, so I don't know if that has different suits), but I really, really hate Bee Mario.
