The Wii version is OK, but I liked the old ones, before the blue shell.

My favorite is easily DS.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

The blue spiky death in MK64 was the best, as it wasn't airborne yet and you could take out the whole field if you were lucky. Thus meaning if you were in first, it was no-where near as painful being hit, as some behind you will have got hit to, and didn't just file past like they do now. Being in 2nd or 3rd and avoiding said shell was crucial.
IMO

My favorite is Double Dash for GameCube. The reason I like it the most is because characters had their special items and you could have 2 riders on each kart. Having 2 characters on the kart added some strategy to the game. And all the special items for each character added some variety to the game along with other things.

I play the Wii one the most thought cause it has a nice online option, obviously though.

DS isn't bad but it seemed to be all about snaking which ruined it for me a bit.

advance_melee i agree, co-op double dash was a real test, but a brilliantly intuitive one. I even remember playing that online with warp-pipe and it was really sweet. Still not as good as 64 tho'

I'm gonna be the strange one (Not the weird one. That's Adam) here and say Super Circuit. I don't know why exactly, but there was just something about it that I liked that I can't find in the other games.

haha you kno wut is funny..is i did the same thing. i used warppipe to play it online too.

N64s is great but like play em back to back. double dash feels so much better, its smoother and faster. the only thing i like bout n64s mario kart is the battle mode maps.. they were awesome i remember playing them alot with freinds back in they day

I admit that epic competitions on Block Fort and Skyscraper (which were ruined for Wii) are heavily affecting my decision, twas some of the finest four-player fun ever, up there with Goldeneye. I love them all (not so much DS) so its hard to pick one. But, I think MK64 stayed plugged into my 64 for about 6 months, so by default, it wins.

Glad to hear someone else took Double Dash online tho', I just wish Ninty had make a bigger thing of it, that and 1080 and the other one, which i can't remember now.

MarioKart Wii 2 please, and make this one about driving, cos I am sick of pwning a race only to be robbed in the final straight (sometimes with my nose touching the line).

I don't know, maybe Mario Kart 64 or Mario Kart: Double Dash.
Mario Kart 64 does have bad craphics but it had the SPEED.
Double Dash had many stuff which none of the other in the series had, which made this game more unique and fun.

Yea, Super Circuit ruled. My favorite is Super Mario Kart (SNES), but I admit that if the GBA game had been on home consoles, it might be a close call. I didn't know anyone else with the game at the time, so all we could do was race one or two levels with the downloadable version. I have always wanted to try Battle Mode especially, but oh well.

Come on, friends,

Double Dash -- teaming up 2 to a kart means 4 player action with greatly improved screen real-estate, which is crucial. It also means a crazy kind of team competition where you spend as much time trying to coordinate with your partner as you do trying to beat the other team. And you can punch your opponents to steal their items! But of course, half the time your backseat driver will punch at an inopportune time and send your kart flying off an edge due to the lateral momentum. Good times, unmatched by any 4-player mode in a Kart game to date.

SNES for me. The second multiplayer course got flogged at my place.
N64 multiplayer was pretty fun (Block Fort especially).

I gotta say Double dash, because your could turbo slide away from homing shells & that yoshi circuit was an awesome track for snaking & setting lap times.
