Many years ago, I rented a NES game and only played it for a few minutes before giving up and never touching it again. I remember it being a vertical scroller and your character could shoot forward (which spent your Magic meter). Your shots could destroy parts of the landscape and if you didn't destroy what was in front of you, the screen would advance and kill you. The problem was that you never had enough magic to not just keep dying by the advancing landscape.
There were power ups hidden in things you destroyed but they made no sense. I suspect it was a Japanese port since nothing made much sense. I feel like the word Magic or Magician was in the title, but Google has not helped.
I found a video of him playing a bunch of Mega Man games from different consoles, but nothing about a ripoff game. Happen to remember the name of the video?
@TheWormThatGnaws This is very much likely to be what I am (mis)remembering! Thank you. I will watch some youtube vids on it to see fr sure, but the destroying landscape is certainly there. Not sure where I got the shot limit from... maybe you pick up some powerups that have a limit?
