@ogo79 speaks the truth. Nintendo should stop with the Kirby, Captain Toad, Smash, "Splatoon" crud and focus their efforts on StarTropics 3. They can still work on Star Fox though.

Star Tropics was a great series so I don't understand why only two games were released during the NES era and then nothing. Did it really sell poorly or did Nintendo decide that they only needed one series in the adventure game genre?! Seriously Nintendo has too many side-scrolling platformers and almost no RPG's and Adventure games besides Xenoblade and Zelda which would explain why they struggle attracting many hardcore gamers. I love Nintendo, but without ample third party support they need to diversify their line-up otherwise there will be several key game genres without many notable releases on the Wii U console.

its the kind of game you play on a hot summer day and bust out some hawaiian punch fresh out the freezer so its all super cold and stuff, so you can get startropicy or something...ive been known to do crap like that a lot while gaming. castlevania on halloween with pork chop "wall meat" sandwiches. splatterhouse 3 and pumpkin pie.
its gaming at its finest...i hope the c-island natives are up on their fashion this year because im busting out the banana hammock as soon as i hit shore. passion fruits and all

That's a good question. What did ever happen? I mean, why just stop after two? They could've probably done more with the series. What really sucks is that Startropics 2, in my opinion, is where the series would've really get started. It fixed the problems I had with Startropics 1 (them being the awkward controls, the jumping mechanics, and the lack of music), and the fact that you're going through different parts in time meant that the environments would be different from one another, as opposed to Startropics one where nearly every dungeon looks the same. I feel like they could've at least acknowledge the series in Smash Bros. in some way. Maybe put in a trophy, a sticker, a music track, or Mike Jones as a playable character. Who knows, maybe Nintendo will revive the series. Maybe they could get Retro to do it.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

I dunno, I think Nintendo just isn't that interested in it. I mean, look how long it took them to make a new Kid Icarus.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

Maybe they forgot. I don't think either game was ever released in Japan.

Heck, StarTropics was better than the original Legend of Zelda.
Don't tell mom!

While I don't think it was better than the original Zelda....it was definitely one of the best games on the NES.

Oh you better take that 'smash' jab back. It's better than that street figher rubbish. People who smash 'Smash bros' have clearly never given the series a decent chance. I wasn't a believer until i really got into Melee. It still remains my favorite fighter of all time. Street Fighter in comparison feels way too limited and restricted in comparison

Just played the demo of the 3DS version of the new SSB, and while it's great and all.... it feels all too safe. they could of at LEAST added a new game mechanic, just something to switch things up and make the experience deeper....but as is, it's a new Brawl with slightly speedier mechanics, if that
tickles your francy. Melee still plays the best imo

I hope you buy whatever version this year so I can ask you how much you actually played this overhyped fighter in a year or so.

I don't think I've actually played that much Brawl except at friends' houses, beyond maybe playing regularly for a couple weeks after it came out.

Something to keep in mind about Startropics and Zoda's Revenge is that they were both created by Nintendo of America for North America exclusively. The games only came out in NA (and Europe). Though the games were created by Japanese employees, they were based out of North America at the time.

So the reason StarTropics has fallen off Nintendo of Japan's radar is no real surprise as the games have no real resonance with Japan gamers.

Now, that said, the same deal applies to Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!! However those games were released back in Japan.

Punch-Out! wasn't very popular in Japan.
Only the original Mike Tyson version of the original and the Wii game ever got a standard retail release in Japan.
The version Nintendo re-releases on VC in Japan was originally a special prize edition (a larger gold Famicom cart) but it is what gets digitally rereleased because it is the only non-Tyson-license Japanese version they have.
Super Punch-Out was never released at retail in Japan, only through a licensed flash cart service (discontinued after the Wii launch, no doubt so Nintendo wouldn't be competing with themselves ).
