To me Retro = cartridges (this does include handhelds obviously). If I have to make contact between a catridge and some type of reader as opposed to the data being read by a laser then that is retro. Having to blow on it to make it work is just the icing on the cake
Released any time before yesterday. In actuality I consider it any thing that was popular at a time before I was born, or when I was too young to play video games.
dunno if i said this but "retro" is just my way of life, a state of mind, my own reality.

So I guess you consider the 3DS retro? Most people would beg to differ, but you're entitled to your own opinion. For me, any home console before the Gamecube is retro and any handheld before the GB Micro is retro. I keep changing my mind as to whether the GB Micro itself is retro.
If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...
Anything released before the PlayStation 1. I think that when the next PlayStation and XBOX consoles come out, I'll consider the 32-bit consoles and N64 to be retro.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
pre optical disc (CD/DVD) systems, so for me the n64, snes, sega, on back are retro, the n64 being 3d many do not consider retro, but it is my favorite of the cartridge systems so i included it.
Anybody here besides me actually miss cartridge games? I just don't have the patience for the load times some games make me endure. Plus cartridges last longer, dont have to worry about little scratches ruining a cartridge.

I do but I can understand why they go with discs now but I agree with you I hate loading times. Especially when it comes to a game like Chrono Trigger on the PS, the load times just ruin the game for me on the PS.
RetiredPush Square Moderator and all around retro gamer.
Technically it's any generation other than the current, but when it really got coined for the gaming market was the falling back to the pre-CD era stuff, cart games, flat 2D graphics, the real throw back. It's just hard to call a Gamecube retro when it's much like todays stuff, just not as pretty. It has little unique to it compared to stuff you see jammed into say the virtual console.
