Check out some of these old game boy games that I got when I was a wee lad in Korea. Any of you have seen x in 1 carts like these? Are they specific to China/Korea/Japan ?
Probably not specific but they were probably most well-known to have come from Asia. (though I've heard South America and the Middle East were filled with them too)
Hadn't seen very many bootleg GB games in America. I want to guess bootlegs only really spread beginning with the GBA era when online trading became common.
As the almighty @KingMike mentioned, most of those "X in 1" carts in the Game Boy era came from Asian countries, and there were quite a few of them released. Here in the States, you couldn't really find them unless you were visiting a small "gray market" type shop, like in NY's Chinatown, for example.
My freshman year in college, 2 of my suite-mates were from China and their GB collections were almost entirely made up of those types of carts - i was so glad i brought my GB with me to school, as i quickly made it a habit to borrow them constantly.
They were quite popular in Italy as well back in the 90s. You could even find them in proper toy shops, and they came with the box. Some of them had the "Nintendo GAME BOY" logo on the top front, some didn't. I have no idea how those would end up in legit toy shops but they did - my guess is that they were distributed by the same companies that used to distribute Famiclone consoles, which in fact were sold anywhere back then.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Back when I lived in Thailand as a kid I used to get these all the time. Many of them used to repeat the same games under different names and claim that the cartridge held hundreds or thousands of games, so much so that you had to look out for a 'no repeats' disclaimer. They held a lot of bootlegged games as well, so now I have a hard time tracking down some old games that I used to play because of how hard they are to find. They usually had very bad save systems though, and with ones like that with all the Pokemon games on them, you could bet they'd never save.
maaaaan those were cool!
I remember I had one that had a fake Pokémon game called pokemon jade, it was so weird!!!!! XD
now that I think about it that thing is probably the reason I have no complaints on the new pokémon designs

That game may have been a badly translated bootleg, but the text was usually hilarious, sometimes with swears. It also rivaled Pokemon in terms of how fun and well made it was, at least at the time.
Those things are all over Canada, and any place where Chinese related people roam. Korea among other places asides for Hong Kong are places were they banned the sales of videogame consoles.
This is why there are tons of NES clones and development for such systems through out East Asia itself. Canada is another place were these could be found because many immigrants from the far east went to Canada instead of America. Also Russia is another place among lesser known former states
as well because of lack of licensing.
I have a couple NES 100-in-1 cartridges as well as games that changes into other games by pressing button combinations.
Back in places in the far east ( Places that are one step away from being 3rd world ). That is why you see those cartridges. Nobody in those areas wants to buy any of that stuff especially due to the anti-Japanese biasness inherited from WW2.
Only nowadays people want them as collectables rather then products.
Cool stuff guys! In regards to the comment about the Pokemon not saving, surprisingly it does save and you can also trade Pokemon to regular Pokemon cartridges using the link cable. If only it could trade with ITSELF..... Dun dun dunnnnmnn

Too bad not even the 3DS games can do that.
(when the inevitable Z comes out, I may have to pay more to import a JP version, and hope the language option stays, for that purpose )
