Topic: Very Bad Problem With GameBoy Advance SP

Every time I close my GBA SP and leave it idle for a while, and I come back and open it up, for some reason, it's at the game's title screen! No, it doesn't go to the title screen instantly when closed, yes I know that closing it doesn't actually do anything to the game, as GBA games were not really designed to compliment it's open and close function, unlike the DS, and I have tried to watch it idle, in the open position, and still, nothing happens. So far, this has happened with Pokemon Sapphire, and Metroid Zero Mission. Is it a problem with the game's contacts? Is the actual system to blame? I am using an AGS - 001. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

How it is supposed to work? If the SP is on and you close the clam shell is the SP supposed to power off or go into a sleep mode? I know that Fusion has a sleep mode that will allow you to kind of safe state and go into a low power mode.

Does it power on when you turn off the SP and then close the clam shell? If so, that sounds like a weird wiring problem.

Checking the SP manual, it looks like you can put it in a sleep mode when you close the clam shell

@OneBagTravel: On some games, there is a sleep mode option that you can select and THEN close it, but then you have to press a button combination to wake it up again. Otherwise, closing it does not affect the game at all, just to protect the screen. This is not even about it turning off either, just that it keeps going to the game's title screen when idle sometimes. It can be really frustrating, especially when you completed a portion of the game and did not save. GRR!

Actually, come to think of it, it did turn off once when closed and idle too, all by itself. The switch was still even in the ON position! I don't know… It may be broken. D: D: D:

If you're comfortable enough to open up the device I'd follow a guide online and clean out the machine with 91% alcohol and cotton swabs.

@DarthNocturnal: Sleep mode does not reset the game, I don't know where you got that from. And it was bought used in last September.

@OneBagTravel: If it gets bad enough, I might have to. I'm steady enough, at least. I already did that with my WaveBird, original GBA and DS Lite; all of them went well.

I also vigorously rubbed rubbing alcohol on a q tip in all my game's contacts and in the system's contacts as well, and none of those symptoms happened since. Maybe it was just a bad connection.
