Do you absolutely want the original game on the VC, or can you get by with a remake?
I can usually get by with a remake, provided they're faithful enough. However, true classics like Super Mario Bros. cannot be successfully remade. The only thing they really needed to add to Super Mario Bros. 3, for example, was a save feature.

what are you talking about? the Mario Bros. games were successfully remade via Super Mario All-Stars, not to mention the Super Mario Advance series.

I HIGHLY prefer having the original on the Virtual Console to the remakes. Yes I'm picky that way.
Now video game remakes aren't all that bad, at least not as bad as movie remakes, but video game remakes are mostly pointless unless you can dramatically shape the game enough to where it is worth buying.
