Hi guys,
Who remembers the nightmares of the NES games back then?
Can you list your top 5 hardest NES games and why?
Here is my list...
1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (random enemies everywhere, limited time and life)
2. Ninja Gaiden 2 (Last stage and boss, is just #%@#% absurd)
3. Athena (It is totally a maze, I had never finished it)
4. Ghost and Goblins ( Oh boy, the entire game is difficult, random enemies everywhere, second round is f$*#%@ absurd)
5. Solomon Key ( very hard puzzle game and very addictive as well)
What about the 3 consecutive end bosses at the end of Ninja Gaiden?
Oh, and I would almost have to agree with Tasuki's list. If the list can go higher, then I would surely include Contra, Castlevania 1 and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.
Still I think Ninja Gaiden 1 would be harder than 2.
Yeah, I agree with Ninja Turtles. That is a very difficult game even if I never played it. I watched two reviews about the game and how difficult it was. Also, Ghosts n Goblins and Ninja Gaiden are also extremely difficult games when I played them on the 3DS Virtual Console. If there's one thing that makes a difficult game so difficult is respawning enemies. I heard that that used to be every child's worst nightmare back in the 80's, the respawning enemies. Also, I never played Solomon's Key, I might get it if the NES Version comes on the 3DS Virtual Console.

That's because it gets a lot easier after you leave the underworld, and even in the underworld it's not nearly as unfair as most of the other games listed.

I didn't play that one... I did play Simon Quest, and it was very hard!!!
Simon Quest is really bad... it's really really bad. It's like it was a rushed game. Simon's Quest is just terrible. If you want to know how bad it is, then watch Cinemassacre on Youtube. He did a review in 2006 and did an updated review in 2010. (Castlevania Part 2)
Also, Minor Secret Castle, It was a very good game and hard as f@#$%&!!!
Do you mean Milon's Secret Castle? If you do, the game is not that difficult when it comes to having "no mercy." It's just annoying as heck since you need to throw bubbles at every square in the game in order to know where to go. There were no hints or anything, it was just so confusing and no child back in the 80's would know that you'd have to throw your bubbles at every square inch of the game in order to find your path to move on. Even Nintendo Power didn't do much, it just showed kids how TO GET STARTED. When you need a guide to know how to get the game started, then you know that the game's bad.

Those games are not that difficult. I played Super C on my 3DS, and I already past the first three levels within 30 minutes. I didn't die that much, but it took me ten to fifteen minutes just to get used to playing. It was the first game I played where you aim and move at the same time in a side-scroller. After that, you shouldn't die that much, the longest of the three levels that I played was the third one in the jungle, I was running and shooting wondering when it would end. After I beat what I thought was a boss, I had to run on the path which was sinking in the ground. I was saying to myself, "How long is this level?" But there wasn't too much after that.
I never played Contra, though, and nobody ever described that game as "difficult" before. I wouldn't know since I never played it, but I could be wrong.
