I didn't have an N64 as a kid, and the GameCube came out when I was fifteen.
15's still a kid.
Not that it matters, I just remembered we have a Gamecube thread. Don't worry about it.
In that case, as I am 15 now, I have a few games that I tested out on an NES that I fixed for the local Youth Center:
1. Tetris 2. Zelda II 3. The Jackal 4. TMNT
Now, to be honest, those were the only four I got to play before it got broken again. However, when I was much younger, I always loved to play SMB3 on the GBA. Infact, while I still have not beaten it for some reason, it's my favorite game to this day.
Nintendo - Where even first person shooters ooze creativity.

As a kid my 10 favorite NES games would've probably looked something like this, in no particular order:
Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. 3 The Legend of Zelda Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game Bionic Commando Mickey Mousecapade Rad Racer Metroid Kid Icarus Rush'n Attack
1. Battletoads (never could get past that level with the spinning circle chasing you) 2. Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest (a Halloween tradition) 3. DuckTales (tough call between this and Darkwing Duck.. but the originality of DuckTales wins out) 4. Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road (best multiplayer title, bar none) 5. Mega Man 2 (the first, but not last, truly great Mega Man game) 6. Maniac Mansion (we had a copy where you could use the microwave) 7. Nightshade (am I the only one who played this game, or just the only one who loved it?) 8. Super C (never played Contra on NES but loved the sequel) 9. Tecmo Super Bowl (classic!) 10. Vice: Project Doom (enjoyed the futuristic story in this action game more than the also-cinematic Ninja Gaiden series)
Honorable mention nods go out to Blades of Steel, Bubble Bobble, and the Lolo series of games.

The NES was before my time, obviously. But here's a list anyways. I remember enjoying all these games when I was younger, except for Ghost 'n Goblins, that game can rot in hell.

Nice call on Maniac Mansion. I didn't think of it when I made my list, but I love that game. I'd probably switch Duck Hunt out of my list and put that in. Such a hilariously weird game.
