What things did you not know about certain video games until recently?
SUPER MARIO KART: it took me years to find out why Donkey Kong was wearing a tanktop. I didn't know who Donkey Kong Jr. was (and never paid attention to the standings)
SUPER MARIO WORLD: I always thought the swoopers were owls

I like how it says that the Master Hand glitch unlocks a "secret boss". Master Hand isn't really a secret, guys :/
Anyways, I didn't know about most of the Mario references in Zelda (save for the paintings in Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time) until about last year or the year before (IE: the bowser necklace on Malon or the Bullet Bills on the cannon guy in TP)
I didn't know that all 3 characters in Sonic 3 and Knuckles had hyper forms until a few years ago.
I didn't know what the final prize from the House of Skulltula's was until about last month. Suffice it to say it was hugely disappointing.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

You have to plug your controller into port 3 and start the game at JUST the right moment to be able to play as master hand. I'd say that's pretty secret.
No, I know, I've done it. But in the article he talks about how you can play as Master Hand, and then follows up by saying that "the very same glitch unlocks a secret impossible boss", which to me sounds like he's describing it as two different things, as if he didn't know Master Hand was already in the game as a boss.

I was talking to a friend recently (she's 27) who has been playing Mario games all her life, and I mentioned the statue ability of the Tanooki suit. She didn't know what I was talking about. She loves Mario 3, and played it a ton as a kid, somehow never figured out you could turn into a statue in that game. I was amazed.

As much as I played Ducktales back in the day I never knew there were two endings until about 10 years ago when out of boredom my roommate and me decide to pull the NES out of the closet along with that game. We challenged each other on who could beat the game faster but he one upped the challenged and said who can beat the game the fastest and get the best ending. At that point I looked at him and said there are two endings? At that point we dropped the challenge and I played the game through once and got the ending I usually get than he did a playthough and showed me the other ending.

Two? Is the including the impossible to reach ending (or near impossible? I'm sadly not familiar enough with the game) where Scrooge finishes the game with no money.

Lol No the different ending depends how much total money you have when you finish the game. One ending shows Scrooge with a chest while the other one has him sitting atop a pile of money wearing the gold crown that you get from the snow level. Also the newspaper says different things depending on the ending you get. YOu can see both endings in the below.

Kind of the opposite, but when I was a kid, I always tried to get all of the Pokemon that Jesse and James had in the shows, hoping I could be a member of Team Rocket or something like that. I think it was in Crystal, but I don't remember. Good times though...
Nintendo - Where even first person shooters ooze creativity.
Found out something surprising recently about TLoZ: The Minish Cap. Somehow, I got through the game without a game over. This may be one time it would've been good to get one. I've been on a Zelda music kick lately. I was listening to Minish Cap music the other day, and its game over music for the first time. To find out it was a music box-like remix of "Time of the Falling Rain" from A Link to the Past, my mind was pleasantly blown! I'll have to intentionally lose to hear game over music more often!
Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

I always found the ending to "Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards" unsettling. It wasn't until a couple of months ago that I realized that I didn't get the complete ending.
