Isn't it amazing? The Music? The Mode 7 effects?

I remember a former friend of my college era being awestruck by the music of the first stage. LOL

What are your memories and recollections of the game?

With kind regards,

It's my favorite Castlevania game. I still haven't beaten it yet (I've gotten to the next to last stage but that's about it). The music's ok, especially Bloody Tears, but overall I prefer the music from the other games like Rondo of Blood, Dracula's Curse and Rebirth. I wish they would've kept the 8-direction whip swinging. That's one of the reasons why I prefer it to the other old-school games.

And here's Bloody Tears just for the heck of it:

Meh. I was never a fan. I much prefer Rondo of Blood. ;P

I've always thought of it as one of my favorites. I actually mastered this game before I could ever beat the first and third Nes games. Those are just brutal. I never got to play Rondo until it was on VC so before that Super Castlevania was the one I loved most. It might even be the reason I became a fan. The Nes games were just too hard for me as a kid. Not counting Simon's quest of course.

I only played this recently (had SEGA consoles back then) and have to say, its excellent.

Outstanding music and atmosphere, great replay value, just a great game.

I just mentioned Super Castlevania IV in another thread last night, LOL. It is my favorite Castlevania by far, and I think the purest expression of what Castlevania is! It's what I measure all new Castlevanias against. Captures the gothic horror theme perfectly (wish we in America had gotten the dripping blood from the Japanese title screen). Others have failed there by being too cartoonish. If I compiled a list, it'd probably be one of my top ten of all time. Certainly top 5 on Super NES. Tremendous game play, graphics, sound, and music.

And oh, the music! Years ahead of it's time. The music perfectly matched the environment at every point, and I don't think an orchestra could make it sound any better. Favorite Castlevania soundtrack and SNES soundtrack. And if I wanted to have a personal theme song, I think I'd use the version of Simon's Theme found in SC IV, LOL!

The one and only issue I've ever had with it is that it's supposed to be a retelling of the first Castlevania. And yet it's Super Castlevania IV instead of just Super Castlevania? Oh well. Minor gripe against one of the greatest games ever!

@WaveBoy
Yeah, I'm wondering where Bloodlines (as well as Contra and Contra: Hard Corps) are. Not happy with Konami right now. Feels like they've more or less abandoned Nintendo, and unquestionably abandoned VC.

Cool tunes, I also really like the song from the first level, the credits music is great, and the remixed version of 'bloody tears' from Simon's Quest.

My third favorite game of all time! First being "A Link to the Past" and second "Super Metroid."

This game is amazing, I love the music! It has one of the coolest moments in gaming which is when your character's theme starts playing when Dracula has less than half to a a third of his energy left and you are like "It is on now!" You cannot fully appreciate Simon's Theme until you beat the game for the first time and then it will be near the top of your favorite video game music.

Another one of the great original songs from this is "Waterfalls," I am not talking about TLC's version either.

Oh and "Rondo of Blood" is my second favorite Castlevania game, thank you VC for letting me expereince that gem!
