Another great thing about The Lost Vikings is its length. On my first time playing the game from start to finish (playing co-operatively with a friend of mine), the game lasted somewhere between 6-7 hours, which is rather substantial for an SNES game...that isn't an RPG, of course.

I already mentioned it before, but the water effects in the Game Over screen are gorgeous! The way it reflects the moon is amazing.

I got out my old Lost Vikings manual, and here's how the Genesis controls are set up:
Move: Left/Right
Ladders/Elevators: Up/Down
Pause/Give Up: Start+A
Inventory Mode: Start
Primary Ability: B
Secondary Ability: A
Buttons/Switches/Talk to Characters: C
Use Item: Start+C
Switch Vikings: Start+Left / Start+Right

With the 6-button pad, Y is used for using items, X & Z for switching vikings, and Mode for inventory mode. Needless to say, the controls work much better with a 6-button pad.

However, the best part of the manual is the character profiles with stuff like...
Erik's Occupations: Mercenary, track coach, stuntman, pizza delivery boy
Erik's Favorite Band: Rush
Erik's Favorite Quote: "It is better to run and jump away from enemies than it is to let them smash you into little pieces." - anonymous
Baleog's Hobbies: Body building, knife throwing, bowling
Baleog's Goals: World domination, bowling league champion
Baleog's Favorite Movies: Spartacus, Rambo II, Conan the Barbarian, Pumping Iron, The Terminator
Olaf's Ultimate Fantasy: To be a Sumo wrestler
Olaf's Favorite Books: ABC-123, Green Eggs and Ham
Olaf's Favorite Toy: Yellow rubber duck named Elvis

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I have the manual, too, and it is quite humorous.
"Erik's Favorite Meal: Fast Food"
The manual claims that Erik is 19, but his profile picture is not very convincing, imo. I'm 19, and I don't have a big nose like him (no offense, Erik).
Oh, here's another one, under "Safety Precautions":
"3. If your Game Pak gets dusty, use a clean, soft cloth to clean it. Do not use any type of chemical to clean the Game Pak. Too much dust makes Olaf sneeze, so keep it clean." I find it funny 'cause of the last part.

I looked up that Olaf the Stout appears as a playable character in Rock & Roll Racing.

Lost Vikings is a series I talk about all the time. People these days tend to hate on companies like Capcom, Nintendo, and Sega, yet they seem to adore Blizzard. People talk about how Blizzard "listens to its fans".Lost Vikings is a good example of how Blizzard not only doesn't listen to its fans, but has forgotten them. Whatever happened to Lost Vikings and Blackthorn? Did Blizzard simply forget these games? It seems to me that once Blizzard hit success with Starcraft, they tossed Lost Vikings and Blackthorn to the curb.

EDIT: Whoa, sorry, I had no idea this topic was so old. I guess I bumped it.. Ah well, my point remains.

You are right though. A sequel to this game would be perfect for a WiiWare/PSN/XBLA release. And they should release the old games for VC as well.

Starcraft??? I think it was more the success of World of Warcraft lol.

Anyway speaking of World of Warcraft and Lost Vikings, I doubt any or you guys here play World of Warcraft but there is a quest series that just came out with the release of Cataclysm that you get group of NPCs to accompany you during the quest chain and yep they are three dwarves dressed in viking attire and they are named after the Lost Vikings. So I guess Blizzard hasnt forgotten them totally. Lol

@OnionOverlord - why are you apologizing? There's nothing wrong with reviving these types of threads; now if you had revived a thread that is either controversial or long outdated, then that's another story entirely. But, you did no wrong. Thank you for having revived my thread.
@Tasuki - oh, yeah, I remember having looked that up on Wikipedia.
I've been thinking of playing through this game again lately. It's so much fun.
I wish to experience The Lost Vikings II, 'cause from what I've looked up it sounds like a very good sequel.
