Wow, there are some awesome prototypes in here. The PSP prototype looks a lot better to me lol
Sean Aaron ~ "The secret is out: I'm really an American cat-girl." Q: How many physicists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.
Thanks for all those pictures. It's really interesting to see trough how many changes gaming systems go before being released. And even after release the changes don't stop (slim versions, enhancements like background lights for handhelds etc.)
Haha, yeah. For example...how many DS-ess' do we want?! I bet that the first released 3DS will definitely not be the final one.
@90's Gamer: I noticed that you haven't yet added Infinium Lab's Phantom [youtube:bq3fsH1VMgU]
Early prototype:
Later prototype:
Lapboard prototype:
Infinium Labs has since renamed themselves Phantom Entertainment and they sell the Phantom Lapboards for use with computers through USB for about $130! I may just pick one up. http://www.phantom.net/
Copied from Wikipedia: As of May 2004, The Phantom's proposed hardware specifications were: CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Video card: Nvidia GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, with 128 MB RAM RAM: 256 MB Hard drive: 40 GB "local content cache" Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio Control: Custom game pad and keyboard-mouse combination unit called a "lapboard". Wireless modules will be used to support a wireless lapboard and game pad.
Wow, someone doesn't like "pointless" threads. Bit like the pot calling the kettle black eh?
It's probably because it shows stuff other than just Nintendo products, or maybe it caused him some grief when he realized that Nintendo screwed themselves with the Playstation (which for some reason he said was 'shopped) and caused them to play catch up for two console generations. I know it's a Nintendo based site, but please people, take the blinders off and realize there is more to gaming than just whatever Miyamoto comes up with (that wasn't meant towards you, Aviator).
I am the one you despise. I am he who says what you really deep down know but are affraid to admit. I am the Anti-Fanboy, the crusader of truth in a world built on your lies.
I can't get over how closely that one NES prototype looks like the PS3 model 1

I remember seeing the prototype PSP in magazines when the PSP was first announced. I'm surprised at how much that prototype reminds me of a closed PSPgo, the one I'm looking at right now that is collecting a good layer of dust on my table. It certainly looks cool, even today, but I don't believe it would function very well. That last comment, I'm talking about the prototype PSP btw. =]
What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.

That was completely random and made no sense at all. Where in his comments says he is Nintendo biased? O_o
Amazing last find, thanks to Kernow at Neo-Geo.com :
As you can see, the Playstation project was first called 'Power Station'
And to tie things together i suggest you match up the Playstation on the right-hand, together with the controller that has the same cubic logo... (actually the last shown picture)
Semi final design i found; Bigger logo which is centred on the disk tray, Power and Open-buttons are marked by name.
Since we're talking about Prototype Consoles. This is The Guy who came up with the First Video GameConsoles. http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/04/500x_ra... Ralph Baer, known as The Father of Video Games, was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. In the mid-1960s, Baer created a "Brown Box" prototype of a home video game console. Baer sold his design to Magnavox, which would release the console as the Odyssey in 1972.
Thats all I can find on it, but there is a Video of him playing, But I can't find it. When Baer first made "The Console", it wasn't for playing video games but something for the Army.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...

Thanks shame it looks just like the previous DS'es. Even tough he claims it will be a finalized design, i wouldn't be surprised if he changes his mind. Finalised designs are also based on 'user-friendly' experiences of playtesters...so if left-handed people have trouble...
