Virgin Interactive knew how to make good licensed titles, ranging from MegaDrive Aladdin to Game Boy Pinocchio. This is one of them.
Based on the 1994 Disney movie of the same name, you take control of Simba through these ten stages (First six: cub; last four: lion) through these beautifull designed and detailed expositions. The stampede stage even looks like that infamous moment from the movie! The soundtrack is seemingly 100% faithful to that of the movie, which is cool thing as they sound great. The control is absorbing as well and easy to follow. What makes this game stand out from those two aforementioned titles on the top is that it's very difficult. And that's a good thing, because I love challenge in a game; though it may take some awhile to get past the second stage. Continues are limited and there are items aplenty. If you collect a huge bug while in a stage, you'll find yourself in a Bonus Stage featuring either Timon or Pumbaa, which is fun. This game's plotline and stages are almost very closely accurate to the movie. A very fun, though hard, game.
Peace!

I'm 90% certain that Virgin Interactive only published them - I know Mega Drive Aladdin was developed by Shiny Entertainment, but not sure about Lion King. Great game though, just wish I could get past I Just Can't Wait to be King - so many broken controllers on that level.

I haven't beaten stage two until the summer I was Seventeen! Seventeen!!! It should not have taken me that long for me to have beaten that stage, but it DID!!! Finally showed it last year. Glad to have finally gotten further.

@StarFox - Yes it was! And I'll not get into the details as to how many years it took me to finally vanquish it!!!
The first one had the arrows, but the second one didn't; so for the latter you'd have to be lucky to get past it.
Also, those THROWING MONKEYS!!!! I'm surprised they haven't made me throw my cookies.

Just watching the video of that level again makes me want to throw my computer screen! But for some reason, I kept on renting it again and again, so it was still fun, though hard!

The Third-Rate Gamer does a hilarious review of this on youtube. I'll have to post a link later; love me some T-R G.

Perhaps I've should said in my thoughtbox: "Can't Wait to Be King (Stage Two) - Public Enemy No. 1 of Video Games" That would've been humorous. :3

Unfortunately, I only got to the seventh stage, on my last continue, before I had even left (visiting hours, y'see). [sigh] Shame, 'cause I would've liked to have tried the final three stages.

I'm still surprised that I even managed to beat the "I Can't Wait to Be King" stage (two). I'm sure there are others here who managed to beat it as well. ...right? I don't blame you if you didn't, I mean, those monkeys have to be roared into the correct position to be thrown to your destination without falling down. Also, how does shallow water immediately kill you??? What is that about?!

I think my dad beat it once.

Ugh.. yeah I hated that part... loved the stage though, even if I rarely get past it. I don't know how I had the patience for it when I was 7 :S. Ahh brings back memories, used to rent it out quite often.

I haven't played the SNES version, but I do have and have played the Genesis version, which according to the comments, is the same game (unlike Aladdin). I could beat level 2 as a preteen easily once someone finally told me that jumping on the waves in the water doesn't kill you like the normal water does. The farthest I've gotten without cheating is level 6, Hakuna Matata. I just couldn't make it up that dumb waterfall with the falling logs, although I may be able to do it if I tried now. I hate how the level select code takes you back to level 2 after you beat the level on which you started.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
