So, how many of you guys are hardcore fans of the original Legend of Zelda? I know I am and I figured I'd kick up some discussion on this original classic since A Link Between Worlds is so hot right now I'm sure some people are going back to play the older Zelda titles. I've spent countless hours with this game and have played it quite a bit through the early to mid 90's as well as recently when I fired it up on my NES over the summer time, its just one of those games that you have to really revisit every couple of years because it's meant so much to the history of video games that it damn well deserves it. Recently I sat down to write a review of the original Zelda, something you can catch by visiting the link below.

So, what are your memories or thoughts on the original Legend of Zelda for the NES?

This was probably the one game that tied with the original "Super Mario Bros.", for being played the most by me as a kid. Close runner-ups would be "Zelda II", "Mega Man 2", "Tetris", and "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out".

I didn't beat the Second Quest until last year, on an emulator no less. Took me a whopping 15 years...

God, guns, and guts made America; let's keep all three.

I got The Legend of Zelda for free from Club Nintendo a couple of months ago, I haven't played it much yet, though. I beat the first dungeon without a guide, so I was proud of that at least!
I don't think the "exploration" part has held up well over the years, though. I really like the dungeons - but I think I'll probably use a guide to figure out how to get to them. The first Zelda game I played, Ocarina of Time, had the right idea, I think. I never was lost as to which way to go in that one, and I could instead simply enjoy the puzzle solving and combat in the dungeons.
So I basically just want a guide to point me in the right direction. Other than that, it's really enjoyable and a true classic.
