I have The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition for Gamecube with The two NES Zelda's and the two N64 Zelda's. The N64 ones works great, but the NES versions don't work. I looks the same as the problems with certain VC games that don't work with component cables. Only in this game, there is no option to use the remote/nunchuck trick.
Anyone know if this problem can be fixed or avoided?

Really? In 480p? Because it keeps saying that the video mode is not supported. The N64 ones no problem. But the NES ones just keep giving me this error.

Yeah - I've just checked it. Have a Samsung HD TV, PAL Wii connected via component cables and set to 480p - both Zelda 1 and 2 work perfectly (as does Ocarina and Majora, obviously). It's worth noting that certain VC games not optimised for HD TVs don't work on mine, though - like Castlevania, Gunstar Heroes etc so it's not like I have some special TV.
Actually every game I have on the GameCube works through the Wii with component cables - including all compilations with retro NES, Megadrive and arcade games. It's only certain VC titles I have a problem with.
Really? That's just mind boggling. I have the same setup component cables, 480p), but I just can't seem to get those two NES games to work. Really weird. After I start up the game, I see the menu. I go to one of the two NES Zelda's and then my screen (Philips) goes blue. Very weird.

Yep - I aint lying to ya. It could be your TV I suppose - when I play VC games that don't work, the screen generally goes black and it says "out of range", but that's never happened with any disc based games (and I must have most retro compilations available).
I noticed you're in the Netherlands - maybe TV signals are slightly different there? I know a couple of European countries have slightly different TV set up to the UK but are still compatible with PAL consoles - could be something to do with that, maybe? I have no idea beyond PAL and NTSC though really.
The Netherlands is PAL too, so that couldn't be it. And as far as I know there is no difference between The Netherlands and the UK. I do have some VC games that don't work with component cables, but that's a familiar problem. But only this compilation gives problems for me. Weird.

Maybe it's your component cables? Which type are you using? I'm using the offical Nintendo ones - I'm trying to think of what else could be different about the set up. I doubt it's the HZ as the collection only uses 60.
I didn't use the official Nintendo ones because I saw no difference in picture quality. It was a Big Ben as far as I can remember (threw away the box).
