@Wavey, if you get super stuck, there's maps you can find online, but I wouldn't rely on them too much. It took me like 2 weeks to get through it, but I played it in really short sessions really spread out. You can beat it in one night probably. :p

For Halloween today I'm beating Luigi's Mansion for the 10000th time. :D

I just find it so heart-warming how Luigi starts to laugh and cry when he is reunited with Mario. Accompanied with that beautiful ending music, it's just so sweet. I love this game. It'll always be special to me.

Metroid is Awesome. Kraid is NOT. :P
He startled me at first! And I can't seem to pierce his Crazy Galactic Gator alien armor.lol It's bad enough that when he throws his little Quick Man Boomerangs at you they send you flying right out the door. Maybe i should try out the morph ball bombs...
But yup, he's one o fthe most memorable NES bosses i've ever encountered, and tomorrow i'm going to tear his Space Alien 8-bit a** to Pixel pieces. B-)

Anyways! Metroid is extremely addicting, it will melt your mother brain, but you soon adjust to the 'no map' and the layout becomes a bit more clear once you get the gyst of things. I'm not sure exactly how far i am...i must of put 5 hours/2 gaming sessions into it. The last Upgrade i got was the Freeze cannon.

It's hard to say where you are in Metroid because everybody explores at a different pace (obviously). Did you take out Ridley yet? Yeah, and the no map thing is not that big of a deal once you have played it for an hour or so. Isn't Kraid's layer music so NEStastic? That has to be one of my top NESmerizing tracks of all time!

I have $5.00 left on Wii account so I might ust have to buy Metroid so I can have that amazing game at the ready. I don't have the original cart yet which I do want, but not having to deal with those passwords would be wonderful!

I miss Japanese games, the good stuff... Games that are imaginative, have good and unique gameplay, a great soundtrack, and replay value.

As of now, I've picked up the High Jump item and i have absolutely no idea where the hell i am. I've just descended into the unknown and it's absolute hell not having a map at this point. :p I spent hours trying to take out Kraid, but apperantly taking him out with the Ice beam is next to impossible. And yesss, Kraid's Lair theme is legendary stuff! Not quite as mesmerizing as the classic Legend of Zelda Dungeon Tune, but pretty close.

Agh, Metroid is so incredibly addicting, but at the same time it can be extremely frustrating. If it had a map, i'd be ecto cooling it up AC Slater style with some boo berry cereal but instead i'm on the Go Go Gadget fritz, scratching my head if i should actually throw in the towel Rocky IV Drago style. :p

I can now see why so many people are devided on Metroid....A Map really would of made all the difference, but at this point the game feels like it's getting huge and half the time i'm mindlessly wandering around areas hoping to find something.

Edit: Frustration got the best of the Wavester'(which is a rarity to begin with), I snapped and deleted/rested the game.lol I just don't want to spend hours on end mindlessly wandering around hoping to get lucky. And forget the online maps, i want to play it like it's 1986 baby. :p With that out of the way, i'm going to jump right in to Super Metroid tomorrow night instead.

It's a combination of wanting to play other games before the launch of the Wii U. And i don't think that would be even possible considering Metroid would most likely be sucking up tons of hours. I'm not the type that will play multiple games at once. I like to play a game, and finish it through. But damn, i seriously regret deleting/resetting my game. :p It's just the repetitive looking areas begin to look like one big jumbled mess and 'because' there's no map it makes the game feel like you're completely lost once you get to the larger portions of the game. It's utterly confusing, to the point where i'm getting nothing donem WHEN i could be playing other games. :p But it's really starting to bother me knowing that i just gave up which is so unlike me..I never give up. What the funk Danny tanner!? lol

@EmaanThe He-Man
did you beat the game without an online map? If not...I bow down before thee', this little Witch lost patience....Man, now i feel like starting all over again...But at the same time....Ugh....I...Just......NoOoOOOOOOooOOO!!!!!!! :p

@Wavey, I didn't use it step by step. I only would look at the map online when things got really convoluted and frustrating, and I have no regrets. Metroid is hard enough even without the confusion that is the poor design decision to not have a map.

Give it another try. It's a good game, albeit a little unfair without a map system (something the newer Metroid games have no problem including)

If not having a map is really pushing you to quit, check an online one whenever you get lost. :p

Just go for it!

Good grief Charlie brown, looks like I'll be restarting this little claustrophobic Lonely alien romp through Zebes once again!. :p It's no real biggie since i've got the beginning portion down pat, so getting to the point where I was at shouldn't be too time consuming. And you know what? I'm gonna do this Oswald OlSchool and draw my own map here and there as I I progressy'. Too bad i don't have any Crayola crayons laying around, because then i'd feel like i'm 5 years old all over again. haha. Besodes, if i were to skip Metroid and go straight to Super Metroid it would always be in the back of mind, bugging the hell out of me & my glorious mullet that i didn't complete the original. Zero Mission would be the grand alternative or replacement, but even then knowing that i let the original defeat me would irritate me to no end. Blaster Master & TMNT(Final stage 'enemy respawning' is a joke. You're basically screwed if you're raphael due to his short range of attacks) may of beaten me, but i can't let Metroid.

But yup! Looking at the maps online spoils what the unknown sections/areas look like. Unless you can find basic empty grids without the visual asthetics, but i'm too lazy. :p Plus, back in the 80's you wouldn't of been able to do this period and i want the experience to be as if it was 1986 B-)

Thanks for the teeny weeny motivation EMonster, this time i wont quit....With a Hand drawn crayola(I wish) map as my helping aid i'll beable to finish Zebes and see Samus's 8-bit jugs in their full mesmorizing glory if I'm lucky enough to get the good ending. lol B-)

That's actually a pretty nifty idea. It would take me about a month just to hammer-pick the first Room/Arear down on Rock. lol A tempting CaveMan alternative indeed, but i think i'll stick with the crayons. Master Splinter would approve. lol So, how's that Amagon? Beat it yet? :p Or are you still laging behind in Translevania, getting your Belmont Butt whooped my Drac's number one servent DEATH :D

Anyways! Halloween has been officially extended. I'm not taking down the decorations until i finish Metroid. :p Plus i still haven't finished watching a few of my Horror movies i picked up including Frankentien, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Mummy ect ect.

no amagon for me, but try holy diver sometime, trust me when i tell you its hard. i beat castlevania 1 on halloween, like my second day of attempting it. all the playing of holy diver made castlevania quite easy. im going to start castlevania 2 in between holy diver.

@Wave I just branded a map of metroid on the back of my head, so all I need is a mirror. :P. But after playing through it about three times, I memorized it, so just keep wandering and you'll figure something out. :3
