Alright fighting fans, if you grew up in the 90's and went to any arcade you know all about the Neo Geo and its plethora of fighting games. Last night I downloaded Fatal Fury Special and thought it would be a good idea to open up the discussion to your favorite NEO GEO fighting game.

Please be specific and don't say King of the Fighters. Which version? Which year? There are so many series to choose from. What is your favorite?

I love medieval far-east fighting games
with weapons and blood,
and great music and atmosphere.

My favourites on the Neo Geo are:

  • Samurai Shodown I (1993)
  • Samurai Shodown II (1994)
  • Samurai Shodown III (1995)
  • Samurai Shodown IV (1996)
  • Last Blade (1997)
  • Last Blade II (1998)
  • Samurai Shodown V (2003)
  • Samurai Shodown V Special (2004)

I recommend Samurai Shodown Anthology (Wii).
It has the 5 Neo Geo games and Samurai Shodown VI from the Playstation 2 on it.

I always have a special nostalgic connection with Fatal Fury and World Heroes. Mostly because I would play them at the shore on the boardwalk arcade. Then I got the home versions on the Genesis and played the ports (which were surprisingly good).

One of my favorites is Art of Fighting 3 because its leaps and bounds better than AOF 1 and 2. Fluid animation, deep fighting, cool characters, and its colorful Mexican theme.

Samurai Shodown I-IV (V & V Special wern't too appealing for me)
Real Bout Fatal Fury
King of Fighters '96 & '97 (Used to play '96 when I was little)

Hmm. I might get either KOF '96 or '97 on the NGCD. I know that the KOF: Collection: Orochi Saga on the Wii has them, but the NGCD versions might have a few extra stuff the original versions don't have.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is what I consider the most playable and in-depth fighting game ever made. You could spend months trying to come to grips with even one character.

Plain old gamer :)

SvC Chaos was great, even coming out so late in the NeoGeo's lifespan.

Grounder is the best robot from the Sonic universe ever. Period. Metal Sonic? Pffft, forg...

I can give you one of the worst Neo Geo fighting games. Actually its more of a side scrolling beat 'em up. But Mutation Nation for the Neo Geo is pretty lame.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is generally agreed as the best Neo Geo fighter, I believe. Last Blade 2 is good too.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves
KoF '96 & '98
Samurai Shodown ll
Real Bout Fatal Fury
Last Blade 2 (played a bit of if in a arcade nearly a decade ago and was a blast to play)

A renewed interest in these games has coincided for me with the recent releases on Switch. Apart from King Of Fighters '98 and Samurai Shodown II (not out yet but I'm sure will be) I haven't tried any others.

Which games would people recommend and/or are hoping get released for Switch?

And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
