3DS XL is hands down the best, IMO.

it baffles me how anybody can think the Game Boy Color is the best. Easily the weakest of the lot.

I guess we all have different opinions then.
please tell me the reasons why you would think that.

3DS can play DS games, and to me, that's the only way it would match up with the DS by using the DS's own library. The 3DS wouldn't be in the discussion with the 3DS library. That said, the Nintendo DS is my favorite based on its library which has a handful of titles represented in my Top 10: Metroid Prime Hunters(1), Animal Crossing Wild World(3), Dementium II(4), New Super Mario Brothers(8), Chibi-Robo Park Patrol(6), Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass(9), Super Mario 64 DS(7) and WarioWare Touched!(10). Beyond that, many of my series' favorites and first time experiences within series are on the DS, so it not only brought me the variety but also the top quality experiences.

It's tough to pick a favorite, but I'll mention a few.

  • Game Boy Advance: The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap & Metroid: Fusion were amazing, and since I was first getting into RPGs at the time, Fire Emblem: the Sacred Stones, Sword of Mana, Final Fantasy IV Advance, & Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories made it a very memorable system.
  • DS Lite: This was the first time I had the means to buy my own games, so I really splurged with it (Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgewoth, Suikoden Tierkries, Lufia: Curse of the Sinestrals, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Bleach: the Blade of Fate, and more, were memorable).
  • 3DS: Unfortunately, I haven't had the means to fully experience it's retail offerings yet, but Tales of the Abyss & Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D have quickly climbed up my top games list, Ace Combat: AHL, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, Dead or Alive Dimensions, and more have been really solid as well (oh, and I can relive past favorites, or gems I missed, thanks to VC).

At this point in time, I'd say it's a toss up between the DS and 3DS. The latter has a really strong video game library for a fairly new system (Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Mario Kart 7, Mario 3D Land and others already, with Link to the Past 2 and Pokemon X and Y due this year?), whereas the former has had some great games over its lifespan.

The GBA was alright, but I have to say I was always a bit disappointed in how we never got a NEW Mario platformer game on it. Only remakes... Wario Land 4 was fantastic though.
