Topic: The 2D Fighters Fan Thread

Spent most my day yesterday playing Gundam Wing Endless Duel and got me to thinking we needed a thread for retro fighters. What 2D fighters are your favorite?

Some of my favorite are Street Fighter Alpha 3, Gundam Battle Assault, MvC 2, Xmen Children of the Atom, JoJo's Bizzarre Adventure, and King of Fighters 95

It's not retro, but I really enjoy tatsunoko vs capcom. Especially with the fightstick.

I'm also a fan of the original Mortal Kombat for the SNES, and the new MK on the Vita is pretty great too.

Nintendo Life staff

I co-host a podcast about professional wrestling titled Blind Tag and I write/draw a daily webcomic about a werewolf in high school named Duane.

Street Fighter (any of them, though Super Street Fighter II on the SNES is my favorite).
Killer Instinct.

Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is definitely my favorite 2D-plane fighter out there. It's not retro, but hey, it shows how much better they've gotten over time.

Best thread ever

What I've been playing

You lucky son of a gun. I really liked that one.

As for my favorites, my list is endless. There are very few fighters I dislike. I'm currently in love with King of Fighters XIII, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, and Marvel VS. Capcom 2. Also Darkstalkers.

Did anyone ever play Cyberbots Full Metal Madness? I played it on Saturn and it was pretty awesome.

Played some BlazBlue today and haven't played it in awhile. Forgot how damn good that game is.

The only 2D fighter I've ever been into is Mortal Kombat. It's just so gratifying and nostalgic for me to memorize all the specials and fatalities like when I was a kid, and then be able to come home now as a disgruntled, over-worked adult and rip someone's head off. lol

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

Ouch. You think that version's good, the other version's will probably blow your socks off. (and Guilty Gear will probably seem like a G-dsend).

Not really. The balance in the original completely awful. I usually don't notice that stuff, since I don't play them enough, but I had a huge list of unbalances within a few hours of play just fighting the computer.

I just tend to view it as one that you have to work to master rather than unbalanced I guess

And my Semi Wicked love for Soul Calibur II has completely dwindled faster than a can of Fido Dido 7-Up soda. Played it with one of buds the other day and it just didn't seem as fun or addictive as it used be....Even then, i've always felt mixed about. I was never a big fan of Soul Calibur, but i was always drawn to the characters and i loved the Deflect/countering system. Raphael's my boy! But eh, it's out of my GCN collection, can't stand to play it anymore.

Anyways! I Still need to play the new Mortal Kombat....And I think, i may take the Proto man plunge and score Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition.
I haven't played a Tekken since 2 on the PSX. Tekken like Virtua Fighter always seemed kind of lifeless to me, especially Tekken and the stiff robotic/mechanical-like gameplay. but considering it's the first Fighter to pave the funky way on the Wii U, i may in fact just give it a shot....With a Jill Valentine Bazooka....Equiped with Acid Rounds. Oh man, i should be banned for that one haha.
