You have to find the alternate exits to progress. Doing all the normal exits just gets you in a loop.
That is right. You need to find another exit in the same level so you don't go in a loop. If you find an alternative exit you will reach another path and move forwards. If you find all the exits in the game you will see 96 on the select file screen.
Also, in a Choco Mountain level there are different paths based on your completion time...
Isn't this like the best 2D platformer ever made? This and Donkey Kong Country 2.
@Jarester All of the levels in the forest of illusion have AT LEAST 2 different finishes.
As others above, if the level is red (not yellow) on the map is has more than one ending, looking at your screen grabs.
You have missed out quite a few especially the ! switches (there's four all together I think) this fills in the boxes which only have an outline which appear on some levels. (Also I'm pretty sure all Ghost houses have at least two finishes)
The picture number 7, the level at the bottom is a water level that has a path going to the next world but try to find an alternative exit in every level that has a flashing yellow and red light on the map. If I remember correctly you need to find and grab a key in that level.
The alternative exits can be found inside a pipe, high in the air or you need to grab a key an putting it inside a keyhole. There are some exits that are easier to get after you have activated a big coloured exclamation mark switch (the Switch palaces). Basically, this game is full of secrets and you need to explore the levels.
