Super Mario Sunshine is a good game, I just don't think it's one of the better 3D Mario games. On the bright side, I did like some of the settings, I did like the gameplay and mission designed and it was a great game technically, it's just that falls into the trap of every other 3D Mario game of having too much padding and repetitive content. Did every other mission have to involve collecting coins? We must have at least three red coin missions a world... It could have also done with some more level variety. I mean, yes it does okay for a tropical island, but there's just so much more they could have done with the theme. Why no levels set on ships or the sea? You could easily either slot in pirates or a cruise ship or something as part of a setting. Why wasn't Corona Mountain a full world rather than a single level? Why nothing more 'inland'? Because come on, you could easily have put either a temple, caves, a safari type setting or a jungle in there somewhere. That would have bumped the number of worlds up to about 8 or 10 and meant we had less blue coin hunting to do.

Similarly, varying the bosses a bit more would have been nice. Did we really need Gooper Blooper fought in two seperate areas, or could a new boss have fitted into Noki Bay alongside Eely Mouth and that Mole guy? Heck, did we even need another boss in Noki Bay? Because to be honest, Gooper Blooper felt like he was just thrown into that level to give everyone another boss to fight. Maybe a second boss could have been battled in Pianta Village or something.

It also could have done with Luigi in the game somewhere, since he really had no reason not to be there (and before anyone says Luigi's Mansion, Mario was ALSO in Luigi's Mansion, just as the kidnappee). Having Luigi as a potentially unlockable character or even just an NPC would have been nice.

I bet that I'm probably one of the few out there who recommend this game over Super Mario 64...

With kind regards,

I dislike this game as a whole, but I must admit that it had some excellent boss fights, such as petey, gooper blooper and that giant eel thing. But Fludd destroyed the majority of the game for me. :P
except for those chain chomp levels, those were actually pretty fun. .-.

It's definitely better than Super Mario 64, nostalgic fans just can't seem to admit it.

Super Mario Galaxy > Super Mario Sunshine > Super Mario 64

They keep getting better and better. :p

but I easily 100% it and to this day I still havent 100% Sunshine.

@GMan, Super Mario Galaxy still had its challenges, but it was consistently enjoyable.

While I loved Super Mario Sunshine, I can't count how many times I found things to be frustrating or unfair.

It is unfair, the blue coins are hidden devilishly. And the Secret Level were not forgiving when I was a kid :)

I have to put myself in the "haters" camp.

I admit I did not play the game when it was released, as I did with 64, 3D Land and the two Galaxy games. So I am not too sure it stood the test of time.

Still, the camera is one of the most annoying things in this world. It will move on its own at the worst possible moment, usually when you are trying to make a jump with FLUDD. Or when you move it, there is always a post, palm tree or any other conceivable obstacle to block your view. Some challenges were way harder than necessary because of this.

Yoshi feels like a waste as well. If you touch water he is gone, and this Mario is set on an island, so there is water everywhere. Other things I found odd for a Mario: why must Yoshi puke juice and Mario must dismember a giant blooper?

Good points are its graphics and the music. The voice acting is just terrible overall. I have 100% each and every 3D Mario but this one.

I don't understand when people complain about Super Mario Sunshine being too different.

Is that not something many fans have been crying out for as of late with the newest Mario games? Everything's too "more of the same" for the fans of the series lately. Yet when something so unique like Super Mario Sunshine is released, it gets a major backlash, for "not being like a Mario game" and not being traditional enough.

Some people are just hard to please I guess. :p

I would as well, only because we've already had a sequel to Galaxy.
