Topic: Super Mario Bros. 3

I just played it for awhile, and couldn't get past the Koopaling on the water world.

i use the warp whistle and its taken me a billion tries just to beat level one of Dark Land

classic game i havent played it in a while

I used to play SM3 all the time as a kid and had no problem with it, but going on hiatus for ten years before playing it again is not good. I have the same problem sometimes.

practice makes perfect, guys. stage 8-1 is much easier when you know all the places to stand or duck so you won't get killed. :3

also, @grenworthshero: for me, it's like riding a bike. going back to it, i may suck at first, but then i start remembering everything i need to do to get through the levels.

@theblackdragon, that's true, but I just have too many other games to finish before I start going back trying to beat old games again. SMW is a different story. That's my favorite Mario game

off-topic, something amazing just happened. I was listening to Nat King Cole's "Somewhere Along the Way" as I was reading your post, and right when he sings "I start remembering everything" I read that part of your post. I thought it was awesome.

i loooooove SMW... especially the 'special' levels. i always save those for last because they can still kick my butt even though I've played them a million times. :3

I hear you there. I can get through the whole game without losing a life, but then once I get to the Special Zone, it's a different story. I'll be using all those lives I stocked up on during the game.

i also like that one level on chocolate island where you get a different course depending on how many coins you collect and/or how much time is left on the clock as you progress to the next section. i wish they'd done more levels like that.

Yes! That was one of my favorite levels....but maybe we should stop going so far off topic

how about we talk about the koopalings, then? i didn't really like theboss fights from SMW (except for Bowser)... i always preferred the classic SMB3 koopaling fights because there are times even now where they hand me my rear end on a platter. In SMW (especially in the fights where all you have to do is knock the koopa kid into the lava), they're just too easy to beat IMO.

as for Bowser, though... I do like how you have to fight him in SMW, but the SMB3 fight will always hold a special place in my heart because he's all fire-breathing and awesome instead of flying around in that goofy clown-faced thing, lol. also, i greatly prefer the music from the SMB3 Bowser fight to the SMW Bowser fight. :3

it's not really terrifying enough for the King of the Koopas, IMO.

It shows Bowser's fun side. And wait until you see how big a wuss Bowser is in Bowser's Inside Story. He's practically helpless.

Well, the "King of the Koopas" has become increasingly less "terrifying" throughout the years.

I wanta goofy flying clown-faced thing...but I might paint over it, im not as fun as Bowser.

when ever I see bowser taged as "the king of evil" I just laugh since he barly qualifys as evil at all anymore

oh no not again!

but SMB3 has that classic 'i'm gonna burn you to a crisp, Mario!' Bowser flavor that kids love and parents also enjoy.

Bowser's really been wussing out ever since Super Mario RPG, where they started to develop his character beyond wanting to take over the Mushroom Kingdom. thankfully, they still keep him a badass in the non-RPG games like Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, and NSMB; not so much Super Mario Sunshine from what I've heard, though. here's hoping he's still that kind of awesome in NSMBWii. :3
