I thought Genesis Streets of Rage 1 to be terrible but the second game was quite decent. I didn't much like the first SNES Final Fight but I generally prefer the Final Fight series better overall.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
When it comes to beat-em-ups,I think most would say say SoR2 is better than "quite decent".I never played Final Fight on the SNES but I did own the best version of it on Mega CD and it's my favourite beat-em-up of all time. It's been around 23 years since I played though so maybe it's not held up so well.
@OorWullie Final Fight on the Sega CD still holds up well, I was finally able to get a copy 2 years ago and still play it regularly. For what it matters SoR 2 still holds up really well too.
@Tasuki That's good to hear, loved that game. Those massive sprites blew my mind back in the day.It was the first game I ever owned that I could say it truly was "arcade perfect",that was a big thing back then.I'd love to play it again but unless it comes to VC which is highly unlikely I probably never will.My Mega CD was nicked in the late 90's along with the attached Megadrive and 32X and several games, broke my heart. If not for that thieving junkie it would be up my parents attic waiting to be pulled out the next time I'm home.
@OorWullie Yeah and it can be a bit pricey too I think mine cost $25 and that was just for the disc. You could go the ol "magical" way and play it on a PC, it's just finding a BIOS that can be hard.

I prefer SOR series but I do like Final Fight. I had the SNES version of FF and it was ok at the time. But with it being so heavily edited you can't get me to play the SNES version anymore. I have the original arcade version on Xbox 360/One. Never played the Sega CD one.

i had a debate with a youtuber over this. he went out of his way to make the sor series look cheesy. thats actually what i told him. it ended with "final fight was just what he grew up with" as he had a snes at the time. lol
cool guy in the end, ended up giving me a shout out in some of his videos.
smart guy!
anyways, i am overqualified to give proper response to this thread.
as i am king of all beat em up/brawler/hack n slash games.
but the important part is, ogo79 has responded.

I think Streets of Rage is the better series of games with Streets of Rage 2 being especially strong. I never loved the feel of the Final Fight games even compared to Capcom's later entries in the genre.
@NinChocolate I'm a big fan of Capcom's beat-em-ups, but I find their best stuff to be later games, specifically from the CPS Dash(Q-Sound) board and later. I've never been able to get into the Final Fight games and don't think they match up with the later games they made. I do see how Final Fight would have blown people away in 1989. I remember drooling over screen shots of the SNES port. Goes to show that screen shots can only tell you so much.
Streets of Rage and I will beat you with a folding chair if you say otherwise! Wait, I meant Air. I will beat you with folding air...I'll find a way...
I prefer Final fight, I never liked Streets of rage. My favourite is Final fight 2. I think that the second one is the best in the Streets of rage games too... funny coincidence lol
I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee
The Streets of Rage series is way better. The original Final Fight (arcade or Sega CD version) is up to par with the Streets of Rage 2 & 3, but Final Fight 2 blows like nobody's business and the third is probably one of the most overrated brawlers of all time. I'd much rather play Streets of Rage 1 to be honest. They really should've kept Final Fight in the arcades where it belongs.
Also, 7 years and still no new Streets of Rage. At least there's Remake I suppose.

Between the two, Streets of Rage seemed to be better. That is coming from someone that generally doesn't like Sega software. Final Fight on SNES was bad, lacking a stage and a character if I remember correctly.
@MegaTen Final Fight Guy wasn't real an update, all they did was remove Cody and replace him with Guy. Plus it was only available through Blockbuster as a rental.

@MegaTen Final Fight Guy had the same problems, just switched Guy for Cody, and the GBA port had all the characters and stages but suffered from a smaller screen that let enemies hide on the edges. It isn't a bad port, but still not perfect. Mighty Final Fight was a favorite of mine just because it didn't take itself seriously and was amazing for an NES game, but it wasn't a direct port so much as a Chibi comedy. Sort of like Attack on Titan's Chibi spin off is gear more for comedic effect.
Final Fight 2 has Guy's fiancee get kidnapped, but he can't be bothered (again) to show up to save her. Final Fight 3 finally let's Guy show up (but no Cody) and adds branching paths, but the SNES hardware struggles to keep up on it.
All of that when stacked against Streets of Rage, which brought a solid brawler, great brawler and then a good brawler. It is just better executed, although not without their own sins in the eyes of fans (no Adam in sequels).
As for the Rushing Beat series, I've only seen them on the VC but most reviews tend to be fairly harsh on them. That said, I haven't ever played them personally. Double Dragon II, Renegade, TMNT 2 were the NES brawlers I owned/played and Final Fight (and later Streets of Rage) were the 16-bit brawlers I am most familiar with.
