So, this probably isn't something the developers did on purpose, but I thought it was weird and creepy enough to share. A few years ago my sister was playing through Yoshi's Island, and she was playing it in her bed, so y'know, it was dark and the screen was bright (She was playing it on DS) so it made anything dark on screen easier to see. Well, she was playing, and then she came into my room and was like "I was playing Yoshi's Island and this creepy face popped up!" I didn't really believe her, until she showed me.

Basically, in the GBA port, whenever you go through a pipe or a door, or anything that brings you into a new area, a bunch of dark, jumbled mess pops up on the screen for a split second, and you really wouldn't notice it unless you're in the dark where you can see it better. A few examples: (If you're having trouble seeing them, try turning your brightness up.)
Untitled
Untitled
Untitled
However, there is one that's quite a bit different. In level 1-3, there is a pipe with a bunch of those lantern guys coming out as long as you have room for more eggs. If you go into that pipe, a normal one of those pops up, but when you go out of the pipe... this pops up:
Untitled
Sure, it's not the creepiest thing in the world, but when your playing at night and that flashes on the screen...
So, what do you think? Do you think it's creepy? Has anyone else ever noticed this before? Do you have any idea what causes it? And is it something done on purpose by the developers, or just a huge coincidence? I mean, I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but at the same time, it just looks so intentional. It looks like some creepy statue of a wolf or something, with a mouth and tongue, eyes, eye brows, fangs, and hands, and it's almost perfectly symmetric. (But that might be explained by the fact that the room you exit when this appears is also symmetric)

Oh, and if you don't believe me, just go into a dark room, make your screen as bright as possible, and do what I said, go into level 1-3, (The Cave of Chomp Rock) go down into the cave, go right until you find the pipe with the lantern guys coming out, (Make sure you still have room for more eggs so you can see them coming out) go into the pipe, and then when you jump back out of that room you'll see it.

Yoshi

I couldn't see it at first until I turned the brightness up.

That is odd, but unintentional.

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.

Never know it could totally intentional! But I don't know maybe some one on here has heard of it before?

While I still don't think it's intentional, it's certainly not unlike something Nintendo would do, like the ghosts that pop up in Super Mario 3D Land.

Tried it! It is totally there... Weird, couldn't quite catch it on my GBA SP AGS101 but got it on the DS Lite.

Tried the DS version Yoshis Island on 2-2but couldn't find a pipe of the same properties also there was no hidden scrambled background pics when the screen wiped black on the pipes that were there... So it only exists on GBA version? Any SNES owners out there try it on there?

I tried it on the SNES version yesterday, but it doesn't have those weird screens at all, so it's GBA only.

MORE WEIRDNESS! I stopped by GameStop today to try the Mario Kart 8 demo, and after I played through all eight tracks, some other people had come in so I let them play a little. In the meantime, I found a Yoshi's New Island demo and tried that out. After completing the first level, it unlocked like three more I could choose. I jokingly thought to myself "Heh, bet 1-3 is a cave level". I selected it and saw that it was titled "Cave of the Nippers" or something. I was just kind of like "That's... weird" I played through it, and found a pipe, and it had an infinite stream of shy guys coming out. o_o I was able to go down the pipe. O_o The room it led to looked like this:
Untitled
O_O
No face though, at least from what I could see. (I even wiped the screen off with my shirt)

I don't think it's intentional. It appears to be made up of jungle level background elements.

Yeah, but you can't download it, it was just at a kiosk in GameStop. You should give it a shot if you spot one though, the game really does look great on the 3DS screen.

@LordJumpMad sure looked strange in 2002.
Man, Yoshi's Island would be such an amazing choice for a 3D Classics version.
