Who is talking about the Wii in here? lol

I swear you guys see much different text on your screen because I always seem to be missing half the conversation.

4. You got told to talk about this forum?

1. You are correct. You are not the user named WaveBoy, and you are also not the user that deleted their post. lol
2. It's ok my friend.

4. No I got told to talk about the Wii U's library earlier in this thread, which I intentionally avoided. So I start talking about it, and then I'm trolling. Life just isn't fair is it..

I mostly disagree with what you're saying about where Nintendo is heading, as the Wii U is looking to rebound from a horrible start, but I do like your Top 10. I'm a bit shocked to see the Metroid Prime Hunters love on there. It's my favorite of the Metroid Series as well. Also, I got to show some love for a list that puts both Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy above Super Mario Galaxy 2. Galaxy 2's my least favorite of the 3D Super Mario games.

@BanjoThreeie It's still unfortunate that Nintendo still hasn't won the hearts of many people including the non-Ninty demographic. It's also understood that Nintendo still hasn't gotten many 3rd parties to hop aboard the Wii U. It's inevitable that some players lose faith in the company. Some will be disappointed.

But I have a suggestion...

I do believe it's a good idea to publish rants in a journal or a personal blog rather than a forum. I don't mean to be picky or mean, but using the forums as journal entries gives one the impression of being rude and particularly pretentious. If you really need to blow off steam in the public, you have the opportunity to do so in the Disappointment of the Day thread.

Yep, I wouldn't recommend using the forums to express your discontent with Nintendo. As a consequence, it looks like this thread evolved into an argument that will probably get nowhere, even though you didn't intend for it to happen. So be more careful about what you do next time! :3

=========================

@GenericShooterDiscussion Some good things to note:

  • Sony and Microsoft are in their own leagues and really shouldn't be clumped together into one conglomerate; in other words, they shouldn't be thought of being one together
  • Since they aren't the same, Sony actually have their own IPs and development houses. Same for Microsoft, though to a limited extent. Sony publishes games for both mature audiences and younger audiences, and my impression of them is that they're pretty colorful and look fairly memorable. Here's a small collage of the games that are on Sony's platform (some are owned by other companies).
  • It wouldn't be fair to call Microsoft and Sony's franchises as generic, as their "innovation" with regard to the IPs is subject to people's personal opinion and therefore subjective. Just because you think Uncharted looks generic doesn't necessarily mean it actually is. One could argue that Mario and Zelda are becoming increasingly generic. Overall, it lies in people's opinions. What really matters is that Sony (and to some limited extent Microsoft) have their own IPs that can compete with Nintendo.
  • The overall message I want to give is that calling out Sony and Microsoft for being generic or not-so-innovative tends to demonstrate one's ignorance that doesn't leave a positive environment.

@AlexSays You leave many good points, though sadly some users can't seem to comprehend them. You probably don't care that much about it anyway, but I'll leave a suggestion. It's probably already happening and I don't know it, but you could try being proactive and work your way to getting users to comprehend what you think.

For one thing, I believe I've seen you explicitly critique other users. I do think society relies a bit too much on positive reinforcement as a way to take action (i.e. discipline, lecture, etc.), and prefer to exchange positive-sounding conversations. Maybe express your critique of other users more implicitly (i.e. it's a good idea to thoroughly read things vs. did you actually read what I wrote??).

Also maybe be a bit more courteous of users. Some are stubborn; others might have a light-complex with Nintendo; others might simply not be freethinkers. But doing this is probably hard to do without being prejudicial <.<

Hey guys! Thanks for all the thoughtful responses (minus a troll or two.) I've always had such a strong loyalty to Nintendo (I'll still keep and get games for my 3DS) it was never anything to do with 3rd parties. It was disappointing seeing great games by Capcom and Konami (for starters) passing my consoles by but I can't justify the Wii U's price simply because I have no interest in the tablet and I was really hoping for more this E3. Retro working on another 2.5D DKC (to add insult to injury using the Wii engine just in HD) that will be sold for $60! I was hoping for either that rumoured new IP, maybe a new 3D Donkey Kong, or anything but another 2D console platformer. 3D World's linearity (though some of the stages are quite big unlike 3D Land) also troubles me, being a huge Mario 64-style open-world fan.

I know exactly where you're coming from. This E3 made me realise that the Nintendo I once loved doesn't really exist anymore. Instead of epic, milestone games, they're just going to produce quick and cheap stuff for families to play in 20 minute chunks.

I think the list of screenshots that got posted pretty much sums it up. I'm sure they'll mostly be fun, but it's a list of remakes, mini game collections and 2D plat formers. Will any of those games be on my list of 50 favourite games when I look back over it in 10 years time? I very much doubt it.

I'd actually take a list of remakes, mini game collections and 2D platformers over generic FPS's. Me and 90 million Wii owners.
So I think Nintendo is fine.

You are not dumb enough to make such an ignorant post.

ok let me list the problems
-Nintendo's E3 was mostly what I was expecting, admittedly barring exactly one big, hardcore Metroid-like surprise (which we didn't get). How can you be too surprised WHEN THEY ANNOUNCED MOST OF WHAT WOULD BE THERE AHEAD OF TIME?
-3DS makes it obvious that a short term drop in interesting titles is for the greater good...that might not be true AGAIN, but 3DS is looking like all sorts of wonderful lately for a system I was very pessimistic about.
-You fail Nintendo history, they have never been the ones making the EPIC hardcore titles on any level, not on average at least. Large amounts of Nintendo are based on "20 minute chunk titles".
-Also, the implication might be that that is inherently bad in which case, are you for real?
-The other implication that comes to mind is that most titles that aren't EPIC and 40 hour JRPGs or other extreme examples can't be enjoyed for more than 20 minutes in a row. The several times I spent an hour just playing the sword sections of Wii Sports Resort of all games is proof enough to me how flawed that idea is.
-The other, other implication is both.
-HD retail games and quick and cheap don't mix well. That is basically implying shovelware.
-Should I point out that Skyward Sword felt too long to me? Or that Xenoblade took me 130+ hours? Spoilers: I didn't play those games for 20 minutes every time. About half of the times I spent 3+ hours in one sitting for a game in the past like 6 years came from it (the others being finishing AAI, 999, and Bioshock Infinite).

Coming on a Nintendo forum to complain about Nintendo when there are 2 other consoles is spiteful to say the least. You're not helping the Nintendo community by trolling, and the site of which ever console you prefer is probably wondering where you are.

Thanks for this well thought out post, I appreciate it.

There definitely is a hard balance to find between being patient enough to allow people to realize what you're saying, yet forceful enough to not allow them to put words in your mouth. I think part of the problem is that there is a lot of younger users on this site and its difficult to convey a point across to them.

For instance the other day I commented on how Nintendo might be more profitable if they made games for android and ios under under the assumption their games would stand out. Several people told me their games would be lost in a sea of worthless apps, and said that I was trolling Nintendo. I couldn't get them to understand, if anything, I was complementing them and they were trolling. lol. Come to find out, I check their profile, and they are 14/15. Not that having younger users is a bad thing (that's what this site wants) but there will always be issues like this when someone tries to get a somewhat complex point across.

Then there are the users that constantly tell me I'm trolling Nintendo and that I'm wasting so much time here (while claiming to hate negativity. lol), regardless of me not saying anything negative and posting here a couple days every several months. I'm afraid I don't have an excuse for those people, they are in for a long life of misunderstanding. lol

Thanks though for the post, I'll strive towards conveying my point a bit more efficiently, and maybe even play around with that positive reinforcement thing. ; )

Edit: On a side note, the moderators on this site do a good job of separating the people that are actually trolling from the people that stand behind a point and just get called trolls. I particularly like this thread (which may be useful for some here). They're unbiased approach to moderating is good for the site.

No one here is complaining and no one here has to be in absolute love with Nintendo to comment and join in on discussions. I've been accused for hating Nintendo and being an absolute trollish fiend in the last three years, than I have been complimented for constructive criticism. In other words, being honest.

There are many people who regular this site for specific reasons. Those reasons include discussing retro games, adding friend codes, reading/commenting on news articles, joining the chat room, partaking in specific (game, other gaming) discussions, and so many more. This is a Nintendo site, but everyone has the right to criticize Nintendo's decisions, games, and other offerings just as much as others have the right to praise it.

Oh, and calling someone a troll for sharing their opinion(s), is childish. (This post is not solely directed at you Scar.)

Just for you.
