The Wario Land series is freaking awesome. Loved the first game, loved Wario Land 4, loved Wario Land 2 and at least like Shake Dimension. Just a pity Nintendo seems to completely forgotten about its existence and no fan communities for the series even exist online.
Also, I still have to say Wario Land 4's soundtrack is one of my favourite video game soundtracks of all time. I mean damn, it's probably better than at least any 2D Mario game's soundtrack, and only a tiny bit worse than the soundtracks in the first two Donkey Kong Country games. Pity it gets overlooked along with the rest of the series.
Even Wario himself will give out the instructions which are really funny especially in Wario World. Too bad Nintendo got rid of that too(Or was it still there in Game and Wario?)
Wario giving out instructions? Do you mean in the manual?
If so, that was always pretty cool. Liked how in the Wario Land Shake It manual, you had a bunch of 'snarky' comments by Wario about every minor thing. Or how similar ones existed in the WarioWare series manuals.
It reminded me of how Cranky Kong used to mock you in the manuals for the Donkey Kong Country series.
So let's see what nonsense they've made up for this game, shall we?
Hmm... well, I have to hand it to them. This time they've managed to come up with a decent storyline that doesn't involve the usual golden bananas. Only joking kids! This one's worse than all the previous efforts put together! I know you probably aren't expecting a best seller, but wait till you hear this load of rubbish...
Talking of comical descriptions, anyone else kind of like the treasure descriptions in Shake It and (even) Master of Disguise? Like...
Ghost Potion: One sip and you'll turn into a ghost... Wait, isn't that just poison?
Pandora's Box: Under no circumstances should you open this. But I'll bet there's neat stuff in there...
Back Massage Coupon: "A fine, fine gift from a loved one, but a terrible, terrible gift from anyone else. If a stranger gives you one, it's probably a scam. Best to run away."
Grizzled Prospector Candy: "These lovingly handmade candies contain large pieces of real gold. Give them to your beloved and watch the teeth fly."
Hypno-Specs: Hypnotize your friends! Hypnotize your enemies! Basically, just hypnotize everybody!
Hotter Sauce: Hotter than any normal hot sauce. No, hotter than that. Hotter. Keep going...
Train Timetable: A schedule for the Derailed Express. Huh. It's scheduled to derail at 4:15. Weird.
Rainbow Toucan: Some birds fly so high that they become rainbows. This bird is just wearing makeup.
Venus Guytrap Seed: Grow your own Venus Guytrap! You know...in case you need to trap some guys.
Air Guitar: Rock out anywhere and anytime with this nonexistent axe. WHOOOOO!
Message in a Bottle: "Send help! I'm trapped in a bottle factory! Right next door to the fortune-cookie place!"
Magic Lamp: This lamp issues a thick smoke when rubbed. That's all it does. What were you expecting?
And arguably my 'favourite':
Vengeful Robot Controller: This remote allows you to summon a giant robot hidden deep within the bowels of the earth and unleash him on your unsuspecting enemies. But it's out of batteries.
Ok guys a quick question here, Why is Wario's voice slightly pitched lower when he comes in Mario games and when in games like Wario Land 4, World or Master of Disguise, he has a higher pitched voice? Is it because Martinet has some vocal problems or something? I'd like to know this fact.
