Actually it did get some tweaks, mainly character models. If you look at some cutsceens, the White Jungle Sonic vs Shadow Ones come to mind. Shadow has a lower polygon count on his spines. They are more ridged and pointy, compared to some cutsceens that got tweaked.
But it is/was a good looking game, and the DC was a very capable piece of hardware.
Sonic Heroes was nice (altho I probably should've gotten the GC version; the PS2 version resets the game whenver you press X), but it was too frustrating. Sonic and the Secret Rings sucked wind. Almost no plot, and switching between the story and the tutorials was annoying. Also, the instructions for the tutorials were vague at best.
I love Sonic Adventure DX because it gives me more to do than just action stages. I just got Nuckles' digger claws. I still can't catch Froggy with Big, tho.
Sonic adventure 2 is not a bad game (great sonic levels in there...with cheesy music), except that it's the game that paved the way for the new generation of sonic fans, The old school charm found in the original Sonic adventure was absent from SA2, plus it also impose alot of unwanted characters and gimmick which would be amplified in the sequels
If I remember (Re:Gamecube - DX), the models are improved, the draw distance is a little further, the frame rate is increase to 60 per sec... but inconsistently, it drops a lot. Also, the badly scaled Game Gear version of Sonic froze on me, why not use the Master Systems versions!? Not good - Stick with the Dreamcast if you have to play it, at least the frame rate is consistent!
The Sonic levels are darn good, I'll admit. But when you have to explore open ended areas like the city and the ancient ruins you run into all sorts of problems with the camera and stuff. It just bugs me because it's so close to being a really amazing Sonic game, but there's these little problems that bring it way down. I'm sure I'll get passed it eventually and just enjoy the game for what it is, but for now Sonic and the Secret Rings is still my favorite Sonic game. It concentrates of everything that makes Sonic awesome--and doesn't force any other characters into the mix

I loved this game. My only issue with it was the camera that wonked out sometimes. It wasn't enough for me to personally be bothered except for a couple of spots. When it originally came out though, expectations for the camera were a bit lower. It's the fact that sequels never really improved upon it (among other things) that got to me.
I have the Dreamcast version. I'm not sure if the upgrading they did for the GC gave it more glitches though. It's a big reason why I still have my DC though.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
Big mistake. I've been in a Sonic mood lately, so I figured I'd pick up a 3-D sonic for the gamecube (since they're the cheapest). I got Sonic Adventure DX. It's kind of a disaster. The camera is broken, the controls are too touchy, and I'm never entirely sure what's going on. Not only that, but the game looks like garbage. I realize it's a Dreamcast port, but boy they really didn't do anything to bump up the graphics did they? I liked Sonic Heroes and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and I really like Secret Rings for Wii but this is just awful.
Is it just me or is the game really that bad? Do I just need to give it more time?
That's a damn shame. Even with its flaws, I found Sonic Adventure DX to be the best 3D Sonic game to date. I understand that they missed their chance to fix SA's flaws, but I'm still not gonna fault them for putting out a perfect port of a good game. Although, I do have to ask: How long has it been since you've played any other 3D Sonic game? Because those flaws you described are not only in every other game, but they tend to be far worse than in Sonic Adventure.

I've played all the 3-D Sonic games except for Black Knight. My favorite is Secret Rings because it focuses on Sonic--none of the pointless other characters, and it doesn't have any pointless gimmicks like turning into a wherehog or having a sword. Just Sonic running at break-neck speeds. I enjoyed Unleashed quite a bit actually, and I don't remember having any problems in that game with the camera, clipping, or frame rate. Nor do I remember having that problem in Secret Rings.
Adventure 2 had some pretty major camera problems, though, as I recall it. I think I remember playing the dreamcast version when I was a little kid and really liking it which is why I bought DX, and it's admittedly not horrible. It's just dissapointing because it's really close to being the best Sonic game ever.

at least Secret Rings held my attention for a little while before I moved on....I don't think a Sonic game has ever held my attention for longer than an hour, except Sonic Chronicles (and I want those 3-4 hours I put in back...game was a complete joke--but at least I got 3 free stylii/styluses)

I love Sonic Adventure 2 Battle but sadly I haven't picked up DX....I think I'll get it next time I find it and have money lol. and Unleashed is not worth paying for. The Day Stages are great but the Night Stages made me puke.
I liked the DC version of SA1, and the Gamecube version of SA2 was decent. But after the Dreamcast, Sonic has starred in nothing but an annual diahhrea fest.

I remember that tune being cool on the demo that came free with Phantasy Star Online for the DC. It had no vocals.

I tried playing it again. I'm sorry, the game is just broken. It'd be great if it wasn't for that gosh-darned camera system. It's worst I've ever seen in a videogame. And for some reason Sonic always gets stuck to walls and stuff. The game would really be the best sonic game ever if they would've just fixed that stupid camera. Waste of $12, IMO.
