I really hope Nintendo doesn't screw up the amount they produce, as I want this more then the NES Classic. But then again this is Nintendo and they need to keep the scalpers happy.

@BLP_Software At least we now know that wasn't the reason why the NES mini was discontinued.

So I've heard the European version doesn't even come with an AC adapter... Is this a joke?

I've read a few things with people complaining about one thing or another regarding the SNES Mini. Mostly people complaining that it doesn't have one game or another and hoping that it has some way to add more games. One person even wondering why you couldn't go online with the NES Mini and buy more games for it.

As someone who has pre-ordered it? I think these are pretty unreasonable complaints. But here's one of my own that should at least be technically possible. Give us a My Nintendo card in the box to register it. If we register it? Give us a massive discount on those games when they appear on the Switch VC. And while they're at it do the same for the NES Mini and VC games we purchased on the Wii U and 3DS

I can't justify getting this with all the games I take forever to play, but I think I'm going to anyway.

Depends if I can. If it's REMOTELY as difficult as people made it seem with NES mini, I'm out.

There's actually a very clear logic to it. Different countries in Europe may or may not have the same plug sockets. So if you're making a single box to sell across the continent which plug connections do you pack in? Omitting an AC adaptor means they have a single pool of inventory rather than one set of inventory for the UK, another for France & Germany and another for any countries that have a different plug standard.

Also I believe that there is a possibility that it may be covered by EU legislation on avoidable electrical waste passed back in the day when just about every model of mobile phone had a unique proprietary charging cable.

Provided that there's a USB cable in the box (which there is) I don't see what the problem is. Every TV with a HDMI input also has a USB socket on the back and that can be used to power the SNES mini.

@skywake

This would be fantastic idea.

@StuTwo

Nice to see people reasoning with actual arguments on the case.

The EU regulation on avoidable electrical waste is a thing I hadn't even thought about, but it might well be one of the reasons behind this, because the proprietary taxes in these cases were huge for the phone companies back then.

Excellent reasoning and argumentation. Well done.

I've already requested Sept 29th off from my work. I'll be up early that day to be the first in line at my local video game store. Ah, that will be such a glorious Friday morning~ The birds are already chirpin' about it!

if anyone tries to get testy with you in the line i can speed mail you at least one pair of brass knuckles that will convince them to get further behind the line. river city ransom style.
just be sure not to punch directly strait forward as they can break yer fingers.
you must use a sweeping motion.
let me know how it goes.

The more I think about it the more I like the list of games on this. Most of the SNES games I can think of that would have been nice that aren't there are also games that would have been tricky to do. Mario Paint? You'd need the mouse so that's not going to happen. Unirally? Pick up the phone to Rockstar and while you're at it give Pixar's lawyers a call. Killer Instinct? Ask Microsoft.

The only odd omissions IMO are Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country 2 & 3. But for both it kinda makes sense skipping them given the other games already on the list. I mean if I was asked to make the lineup better by adding just one game to the list? Given the 20 games already there I'd probably pick something like Super Tennis or NBA Jam over Chrono Trigger.

I don't want one as i still have my original SNES with those games, well except Mario RPG and Starfox 2, as they never came out in UK (and yes i know Starfox 2 didnt come out anywhere), just thought i might warn some people and give them the chance to get one for themselves.
I don't like people who buy things to then sell on or keep packaged, all computer games and consoles i have ever bought/won i play on as i think that if they are not being used, they are not full filling the point in their creation.
