I was thinking of getting Phantasy Star Online on Nintendo gamecube. But, I heard that only hundreds of players play this game online. Also, Dragon Quest X and Phantasy Star Online 2 is only available in Japan. I hoped both games get release soon in the Western Region.

I had the Xbox version of Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2 and I can tell you wholeheartedly that the game is one of the best I have ever played and will ever play. It's even aged really well - there's hours of fun to be had with it, especially with up to three friends. I still vividly recall the many memories I made with my friends where we'd all dive in for an adventure, take on several bosses together and generally be pains in the ass to one another when it came to the legendary items. Yeah, the single player is fun too, but the multiplayer is where the game truly shines, imo.
I know Dragon Quest X and Phantasy Star Online 2: Cloud are so far only coming to Japan on Switch, but I'm hoping from the bottom of my hear that that changes before 2018 's end. If not, I'm making myself a japanese account... Which is the last thing I want to do.
Never take anything I say seriously. S'all you buddy. ;)
Mainly play on my Switch but I have 3DS, Wii U and PS4 as well.
Fave game series include: Pokemon, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Disgaea, Bayonetta, Dragons Dogma, Phantasy Star & Arena of Valor.
Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II on the Gamecube was not just a launch RPG for food for starving Nintendo fans, it was also a heavy grind for levels, money, better gear, and evolving helper companions, with procedurally generated roguelike stages which was a pretty new thing at the time. It made every run different. It also has a 4-player offline splitscreen co-op mode which was the next best RPG multiplayer game you could get on a Nintendo system if you loved 3-player Secret of Mana! Me and my friends were addicted to it for 400+ hours, and it never really ended. It is absolutely worth it.
From the Gamecube launch RPGs we also picked up
Skies of Arcadia Legends (The wonderful enhanced version of what is arguably Dreamcast's best RPG)
Lost Kingdoms (From Software, Dark Souls creators card-battle action-adventure. I couldn't put down until I collected everything. They released a sequel as well.)
Summoner 2: A Goddess Reborn (a friend of mine was really into it, and I watched him playing through this complex and ambitious action-rpg with really nice villages, races and interesting skill interactivity)
Evolution Worlds (another Dreamcast port, but not an enhanced one. It's just the "first part" of a small underdeveloped roguelike dungeoncrawler.
@LinkxPeach I loved this game on the Dreamcast. Are the gamecube servers still running for this game? As suggested, would hold out for the Japanese Switch version and d/l via Japanese account.

The game is expensive to get online, so I really don't know are the gamecube servers still running or not.
