3DS I can see why youd want a GCN for originality, but come on.... I like to play all my games on one console/handheld
Digitaloggery 3DS FC: Otaku1 WiiU: 013017970991 Nintendo of Japan niconico community is full of kawaii! Must finish my backlagg or at least get close this year W...
I don't know XD It's something with me that loves playing games on the real thing instead of backwards compatibilty lol Like when the WiiU comes out, I would rather play the wii games on the wii
This makes zero sense to me. Instead of wasting money on something you already a superior version of, just get the 3DS. It'll expand your gaming options. (Able to play those shiny new 3DS games!)
I always make a point of playing GCN games on the Gamecube. There's nothing like a bit of original hardware. I think the Gamecube is a better Gamecube than the Wii. philosophical, no?
Having said that, I would just stick to your plan of getting the GCN at Christmas. It's a good plan.
You have a Wii, the Gamecube is a waste of money entirely as technically it still really is the original console. Outside of strapping a GB Player on the bottom of the purple box the system is useless to you. Unless you have money to burn, get the 3DS as there's plenty of good things to do there on card or download now. You do realize the Wii hardware is the Gamecube hardware, just with the processors, ram, clock speeds, and the rest beefed up so technically you are on the real hardware, there is NO emulation or backwards compatibility being put into play here like on the PS3 or 360 where they emulate the old stuff to work to a certain degree of accuracy.

The Wii plays Gamecube games exactly the same as the Gamecube does. If the Wii downgraded Gamecube games like the 3DS downgrades DS games, than I would understand, but since the Gamecube and the Wii both play Gamecube games in exactly the same way, there's absolutely no reason to get a Gamecube. It's like saying you have an SP but you're going to get Game Boy Advance anyway. It's a waste of money in my eyes.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
@simmerE15 i`d suggest that if you must own a gamecube. get the 3DS first, then get the gamecube afterwards. besides, imagine the look on your friends faces when you walk up with a 3DS in your hands.
There's 4 factory sealed, platinum Gamecubes at Amazon for under $90, but you'd better hurry before they're gone. I mean there are other sellers charging $50, or more just for a new Gamecube controller. So that's an awesome deal in my opinion. (And the 3DS msrp is only going to decrease, so you do the math.) (<:
Like many people here, I'm a purist. I refuse to buy VC games for the most part, unless they're super expensive to buy used (which is why we need Earthbound, but that's another story) Sure, you may argue it plays the same or whatever, but it's cool having the original hardware. There's nothing like playing on the original console. And for those of you who can't wrap your mind around why anyone would want to do this when the Wii plays GCN games: I hate having to use the Wii remote just to select the disc channel and then switching to the GCN controller. Why can't it just automatically play a Gamecube disc when you put it in the Wii? The only problem is, component cables for the Gamecube are crazy-expensive, so it looks like crap on my HDTV compared to playing them on the Wii with a component cable. If you already have a Wii, go for the 3DS first, because you can still play GCN games on the Wii. in the meantime. The Gamecube is super-cheap now, though, so the memory card and controllers are going to be the most expensive part.

I didn't have component cables for my GCN, but I found they were readily available for the Wii so that's a possible difference. One minor annoyance with running GCN discs on the Wii, is that you lose Wii menu functionality until you manually power down the Wii. Not a deal breaker by any means, but the support could have been implemented more smoothly.
...For the enthusiast, the Gameboy Player attachment for the GCN is completely awesome, but doesn't see as much use in my home as it should unfortunately!
