Obviously, Mega Man 9 was successful enough to merit a Mega Man 10 production, so my question is what currently running series would you like to see go back to their 8 and/or 16-bit roots? No ReBirthings or anything like that, a brand new game. I'll start...
Donkey Kong Country 4 would be a game I would be willing to shell out some Wii Points toward.
BTW, the idea of a Donkey Kong Country 4 is great. It could be done like the New Super Mario Bros. games. I still don't get why haven't made a classic DK platformer in nearly a decade.
Lieutenant Commander of the Lesbian Love Brigade
There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Final Fantasy needs to be turn-based again, and with an overworld.
Shinobi. If you've played the newer ones, you know what I'm talking about
Command & Conquer could probably use but I doubt it would ever happen
WARCRAFT! Seriously, is another Warcraft RTS too much to ask?
Unreal Tournament. UT3 just felt like it was missing(something besides just the really awesome game modes)
Doom needs to stop being scary
Theif needs stop being so damn linear
same with Deus Ex
Silent Hill. While Shattered Memories was okay, most of the post-PS2 ones have been pretty disappointing. They need to go back to what made the old ones good
Resident Evil. Needs to go back to having you roam around a mansion with semi-incompetent heroes spouting hilariously awful dialogue while solving puzzles and occasionally fighting monsters who can kill you easily if you screw things up at all. Or maybe I should just continue playing Dead Space.
Dino Crisis, or they can make it completely different. Just so long as they undo everything they added in Dino Crisis 3
Mario Kart. Undo everything they added in Mario Kart Wii. PLEASE.
Advanced Wars needs to stop being so serious. The childish was half of what made the series so great in the first place, IMO.
Turok. They haven't done it right since Seeds of Evil, and it would be great if they could draw inspiration from that game and make the next Turok a truly unique FPS.
"Sonic, of course." Exactly why? The new Sonic games are unique and fun. Sure they aren't executed very well, but it's not because Sonic needs to go back to 2D. And besides, isn't that what Needlemouse is?
Personally, I don't think series should go back to their routes. Sure once in a while is good, just to give that nostalgia, but games should evolve, not go back to stage 1. If your stuck in the past and can't like the new games, then play the old ones. But games shouldn't be going backwards.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

I agree that the newer Sonic games aren't that bad, and that games really shouldn't just go back to square 1, however, I do that there are aspects from the older games that are missing from the newer games that I think it could improve them. For instance, the older were more about learning the levels and earning the speed you got, where as the newer ones I guess you could say just give you the speed, especially in the handheld ones. Not mention the older one were often about finding the best route, which is often missing in the 3D games. And of course, lets not forget the creative and colorful level design that have been absent from the series for quite a long time, minus a few exceptions(namely Sonic Heroes).
IMO, the Sonic series would be a helluva lot better if it simply borrowed and expanded on more of the design concepts from the earlier games. Going back to square 1 is one thing, but there's nothing wrong with using ideas from the past to inspire the new.
