This is the place to discuss the Sega Genesis Mini. Praise (or quip about) Sega's new Classic Edition contender.

No, unfortunately it's not. There's already an existing thread on this topic:

no offense, but you may want to do a bit more of a thorough search through the forums next time...

@ThanosReXXX he probably searched for Genesis mini instead of mega drive mini!

See ya!

ThanosReXXX

@ralphdibny Yeah, I suppose. I also often run into that problem: I'm an American living in Europe...

@ThanosReXXX woah no way, I thought you were from Titan! Lol jk but I just wondered what they call the Saturn on Titan 🤔

See ya!

ThanosReXXX

@ralphdibny They'd call it the Alpha, and the Dreamcast the Omega, because the Saturn began the fall to the end, and the Dreamcast actually was, sadly enough. Glad I've still got a working Dreamcast sitting in my living room, though.

@ThanosReXXX I feel like it would be thoroughly improper for me to not state that I don't understand that reference. I even googled it....thanosi? Alphex omegrex? Hmm maybe it's more obvious than that lol

But I do have two (working, I think) Dreamcast though, haven't played it since I lost the disc that allowed me to play the typing of the dead disc which was a different region, my Saturn unfortunately only reads some discs so I'm going to open it up at some point and mess around with the potentiometer to hopefully get some results....

ThanosReXXX

@ralphdibny It's not as complex as you're making it: it's about The Alpha and The Omega, which literally stands for the beginning and the end, sometimes also used in reference to something being the "end all and be all".

EDIT:
And Thanos actually used those words in the comics series, saying: "I am The Alpha, I am the Omega. I was the beginning, and I will be the end."

The origins are both Greek and biblical.

P.S.

Why don't you have an avatar/profile picture?

@ThanosReXXX lol fair enough, hmmm I'm not sure, I sort of wanted a good picture of the elongated man from the comics but I couldn't find one. as much as I love the version on the flash TV show, I'd feel a bit weird about having a fresh faced young man as my display picture (even if he is similar age/bit younger than me). And well, comics elongated man isn't as iconic looking as plastic man and if I was called Ralph dibney and had a picture of plastic man it would either confuse people who had this specific knowledge or make me look like a n00b (not that I care so much about the latter) and as you can see I have clearly overthought it and ended up with no profile picture whatsoever....

See ya!

ThanosReXXX

@ralphdibny Who cares if a picture does not fit the name? There's hundreds of members on here who have a picture that doesn't relate to their name, so I wouldn't really be bothered by that, if I were you. So, Ralph Dibney, the elongated man, or Mario, for all I care, it's all good.

No offense, obviously, but I always think if people have no profile picture (yet), then they're either new, or not really all that well versed in how to actually make that happen.

@ThanosReXXX nope, fair enough, I just never attributed much importance to it to be honest (apart from my 60 second mind splurge up there). Maybe I will go for it one day. Also I do still feel a bit new! I only logged in a year or two ago in order to inform people about a GameCube controller that was actually usb (so not a GameCube controller) and then I just got sucked in but I think (whilst I'm a bit internetaphobic when it comes to interacting with strangers) posting in comments and on these boards has been a mostly satisfying experience.

Also I've just looked up Hartley Sawyer who plays the elongated man and hes actually a bit older than me but looks really good for his age... In comparison I look like Tom hardy had a baby with ray winstone

ralphdibny

Haha there you go, I am actually not well verse in doing it and it proved to be a few minutes of work...

ThanosReXXX

@ralphdibny Well, whaddaya know?
And yes, this actually is a pretty good community, bar a few outliers, some of which have become a bit larger in number, unfortunately, but compared to some other game related and other forums I've been on in the past, this here is still a sea of tranquility and haven for people that actually have a modicum of decency, to say the least, so I'll be hanging around here for quite some time to come...

@ThanosReXXX fair enough, yeah it is a nice bunch and I do appreciate the vastly varying opinions. reading comments from sheep is far less interesting. I'm probably more anti shill and anti troll than anything and there are definitely a couple of people here who are both but at least one of them has some redeeming qualities.

I actually moved over from nintendotoday (formerly wiiudaily) which started off a very good site but by the end of me reading there, they just kept posting articles that were like "mario comes to switch....but is that enough to win fans over again". You just think, for a Nintendo fan site, they are very anti Nintendo and I wouldn't be looking for nintendo news if I wasn't already a fan so I just dumped them and found NL. When I did check nintendotoday out of curiosity last year it turned out there was a bit of behind the scenes trouble between the original very passionate contributor and some guy who either bought or owned the site and cared very little for it so I'm not surprised the articles tanked the way they did.

I very much appreciate the strictish moderation here in terms of duplicate threads, spam reduction etc. I probably wish we could discuss old school piracy more openly (within the rules of course, like no posting links and tutorials) without people jumping on the evil pirate bandwagon. One has to remember, that most games worth pirating have already been purchased by the pirate (sometimes multiple times), that some games are stuck in a legal mire which means they will never see the light of day again and of course that England is the homeland of knock off dvds and games bought from the market or that guy that goes round the pub with a hold all.... That's probably more just the passionate community over a moderation issue though.

I feel this thread may be closed or retitled soon due to it being a duplicate and being completely derailed lol.

@ralphdibny Well, depends on what systems you'd like to talk about. If you take a minute to browse through the site rules, you'll see that it clearly states that it is forbidden to discuss modding of and/or emulation on current systems, but it is perfectly fine to discuss what you've got running on your soft-modded Wii, and last year, we even had quite a long run with a SNES Mini thread, in which we also discussed modding it, so there's plenty of that possible here.

As for your thoughts on the site you came from: I've visited sometimes, when it was still Wii U Daily, but it never quite grabbed me or stuck with me like this site did, so I subscribed here instead. I was previously a member on N-Europe, but that site has gone through one too many changes and just never got back to its former self anymore.

However, I'm definitely not opposed to a site being critical of Nintendo and of its games. Actually, that's what I would expect from an independent site. It's not like we're on nintendo.com after all...

As long as the criticism is constructive and/or warranted, then I'm perfectly fine with it.

@ThanosReXXX oh yeah absolutely be critical of Nintendo for dumb or irrelevant things. As I said, I don't like shill behaviour, Nintendo isn't a deity by any means. I love them but they do lots of stuff I disagree with or which has little relevance to me. Stuff like, imposed scarcity of amiibo, day one DLC, microtransactions etc etc.

Nintendotoday was a whole different ball game. Every single article was constantly negative. Every single article finished with some comment about Nintendo not being good enough or not having fans. It was really depressing, like either they were a jaded fan or they just didn't get what Nintendo was about at the time.

Yeah of course I wouldn't expect switch modding/piracy etc. Tbh I wouldn't really want to discuss anything in particular, more just be free to mention a raspberry pi here or there without getting jumped on. Funnily enough I wouldn't even dream of modding a SNES mini because to me it's a collector's item. And for half the price you can get a raspberry pi without butchering an official console and/or removing the "stock" software from it.

I just got mine yesterday and all i have to say is AWESOME! Now scuse me I'm gonna go party like it's 1989!

Kinda urked there's no Sonic 3 on there but with all the supposed involvement of Michael jackson i can see why. Darn Licensing issues! Wonder how long before the hackers will get on that. I'm sure this site will write up a big article all about it. They always do but darn us to heck for discussing it ourselves.

@ralphdibny Hm, sounds more like criticism for the sake of it, then. Good thing I never subscribed there.

As for the SNES Mini: I modded mine, because I am not at all interested in Raspberry's, and they're not real SNES or whatever other consoles. Just a generic mini-emulate-all-PC. And I like systems to boot up as they should, not with a game and/or system selection menu. I know it's customizable, but still. Give me plug and play any day of the week for this kind of mini consoles.

But I didn't remove the games that were on there. I just added the ones that, in my opinion, were sorely missing, and there was more than enough space on the internal memory to do so: instead of the stock 21 games I now have 85 games on there. I didn't go so far to also add an external USB module, which basically enables you to add unlimited amounts of games, and I also never added any other systems, because far as that is concerned, I also wanted to keep the system pure, so only SNES games are on there.

But to get back on topic: I also pre-ordered the Megadrive Mini, so that'll be arriving here in two weeks.

@ThanosReXXX you are more than welcome to do what you want with your SNES mini of course! You paid 70 quid for it!

I think they are not too different in the aspects you mentioned though, both have menus that are fairly similar in functionality if not in looks. I found getting the non Nintendo mini consoles means I can collect them but also have the usb controllers for the pi for ultimate authenticity! I do have an adaptor for the SNES controllers tho 🤓.

Very much looking forward to getting hold of some 3 button mega drive usb controllers since I got the retro bit 6 button ones a while back

I'm sorry to ask, I'm new at this, I downloaded the driver to add more games to the Sega mini. But does anyone know actually where to get those games to be downloaded on there?
