give me the original graphics any day. same for the original game physics, too — don't update those, i'm used to it playing that way already for goodness' sake

Yeah, the change of physics is another reason why I don't care much for All*Stars. It's minute and really only noticeable if you've put a ton of time into the old games, but dammit, that's me!

I think it depends. A game can benefit from a fresh coat of paint (Super Mario All-Stars) but sometimes it's great to go back to old graphics after a while and see how far things have come (Mega Man 9 & 10).

I'm not that fussed, to be honest. I've been playing games long enough (since DOS days) that graphics don't bother me too much - I enjoy seeing shiny new games, but I'll happily pick up a 15 year old game and play that without any worries.

I'm not opposed to graphical updates per se, but as mentioned above they usually come with a slew of other 'enhancements' that can be detrimental to the game (or totally improve it, too).

Generally I'd prefer to see the effort put into new game experiences, since I'm quite happy to play games in their original form.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

Totally agreed, both on the graphics point and minute physics-difference of All-Stars. I'm not a fan of the "updated" versions.

For the most part I'd say original graphics. It depends though. Super Mario All Stars had great sprite overhauls, but then you have Final Fantasy IV on the DS with horrific modern graphics. I'm in the minority though. FFIV Complete Collection on the PSP look much better than the DS version. Give me pretty sprites anyday.

IIRC only Mario Bros. 1-2 have the brick physic changed right? Everything else is completely the same.

Precisely. Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 are exactly the same games just with updated audio and visuals.

Just for you.

I've mostly only played SMB1 in All*Stars and din't at all like what I saw, so I can't say I've put that much time into 2 or 3. I'm happy to hear that the physics of those are identical (enough), but I still don't want to play them.
