Hi. I just bought Chrono Trigger for the Snes and it's label is in a poor condition (as seen in the picture below). I am thinking about replacing the label. Does anyone knows how replacing it would devalue the game (in a collector's meaning)? Should I just keep it the way it is? Thanks!
Well, if it's for a collection, I thought only boxed copies in mint/near-mint condition were considered valuable? I mean, you got yourself a fantastic game there, but that's not the one you put on a shelf and admire. That's one you put in your SNES and play the heck out of.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
Yeah... I'm actually trying to get some games piece by piece. Like, I got the game and I would later go after the box and manuals. Some games are cheaper that way (I got this copy of Chrono Trigger for $20). So that's why I'm asking. It's my personal collection and I won't sell it (and it won't stay on the shelf either. I think that games are not stamps ), but I'd like to eventually get all of that stuff. And as this is the first game I bought in this condition... Well... Should I?
Yeah. Well, I think I'll do it. I mean, I have this game that I searched for so long and I was afraid that I would be committing a criminal act by doing that... Thanks.
@clark_quente it all comes down to cosmetic preference. if yer worried about trying to sell it one day you would need to do the proper thing and let potential buyers know it has a repro label. these days retro folks are cracking down fast on stuff like this. if you have a problem with the label for personal reasons theres nothing wrong with it. just know at this point people are hesitant to buy a game from someone with a repro anything on it game-wise these days if the sought game was available in its original region in the first place. an example would be: the first thing they would think was the actual board must be fake as well. this is coming from someone who bought games before all this repro sticker stuff was happening. i didnt have to worry about a fake panic restaurant sticker. but now id be very cautious dropping 300$ on it wondering if the sticker was fake. a fake sticker will lower its value if another collector wants to buy it, if its a regular dude that just wants to play it, he may skip your cart for sale and get a torn sticker if he doesnt care about the cosmetic quality. just keep the cart.

@ogo79 Thanks man. That's the thing. I don't wanna destroy a classic and that's why I'm worried about changing the label. At the same time, did you see the quality of the sticker in the image? ( http://www.marcelotanisho.com.br/IMG_0388.JPG ). The back label is even worse, almost entirely ripped of. The thing is... I don't know if the game would lose too much value considering it's current state and that's why I'm considering changing the sticker.

i mean if yer gonna keep the game why not? for the back sticker all you have to do is swap out the back part of the case with another snes game. just get a starbit security tool needed for the screws (its also compatible with the nes)
if that was my sticker id change it, that looks terrible.
but i think yer worried about selling it...

Yeah, I hate repro stickers but this is coming from a guy that likes the orignal. As long as you don't try to sell it as an original then I don't see it as a problem.
To blessed to be stressed.

The repro thing has always been around it just should be given its proper title of bootlegging.
Heed this mans advice and steer clear of getting involved in the shady business of sticker bootlegging
