Pardon me if this is old, as it was written a long time ago, but it seems that there are few places on the internet this has been posted from what I read, so I decided to spread the word: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107813-Rumor-Rare-S...

Sorry again if there has been an update, this stuff was said in February, but as I said, I could find very little on the topic. Anyways, I knew Rare hadn't been doing as well since going to Microsoft, but wow. How can the ones that made Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Banjo-Kazooie be tied to a casual Kinect game?

Whether it is old or not though, I figured I'd do the service of spreading the bad news. One could question it's relevance anymore, considering that Rare can't even make games for Nintendo anymore, but that's why I put it in "retro." Even if their glory days are over, I couldn't stand to see them close. Atleast the first Kinect Sports seems to have done well. Here's hoping that people are interested in the sequel.

Also, realize that it's just a rumor, and from 4chan no less. Take it with a grain of salt, but it seems that there are enough bits and pieces that point to this being true.

It should be remembered that personnel responsible for the lovely things created 10 and 20 years ago left a while back. The company today lacks many of its key players from yesteryear, and hence I do not believe that Rareware today is even the same company. That said, I fell sorry for the workers if this is true.

I agree. Most of the great staff members left Rare a long time ago. Very sad to see the studio only a mere shell of its former self.

I think Nintendo should buy Rare back if they get the chance to. Rare did it's best with NIntendo. Maybe those great staff members will return afterwards. Those members probably left because they didn't want to work for Microsoft?

Well, Kinect Sports Season Two is being jointly developed by Rare and Big Park Studios (team behind Kinect Joy Ride) so I don't think it's a case of "Kinect Sports 2 must sell well or Rare dies". There was some restructuring last year and they have a new studio director now if I'm not mistaken, so here's hoping the studio has plenty of years left in it

All Rare can offer Nintendo now is being able to release their old games onto the Wii and 3DS Virtual Console other than Donkey Kong Country.

They would just be the kind of shovelware developers that we hate so much in terms of retail and WiiWare/3DSWare games.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I want the real Rare back.

You're probably right but it would be great to have the rest of their classics on vc.

Actually Tim and Chris Stamper the founders of Rare and the ones who had the most shares of the company and had the most controlling interest sold it to Microsoft so they can do other things. It had nothing to do with working for Microsoft.

@Bub166: And yes as some said the Rare now is not the same company as the ones that did GoldenEye, Killer Instinct, DKC etc. All those people are long gone they are only Rare now by name.
